I had one of those ugly melamine bookcases. got the spray paint that'll stick to anything and turned it a lovely cobalt blue. held up pretty well.

my quick way to an egg salad is actually to poach the eggs and then just break em down with a fork. easy. hard boiled without any shells to deal with =P not quite as quick as scrambling, but more hands off.

So I have basically the same room. Size, windows, door position is slightly different. And probably even the same bed. I tried for 1.5 years to maintain being able to open the drawers, but the problem was you could never quite get around the bed comfortably, which made the flow quite terrible. I finally gave in and put the bed into the corner opposite the door, using the drawers on that side for things I rarely need to get at. For the wall opposite I got an Ikea Expedit 4x4 bookcase that I actually use for clothes storage. This made the room seem much more spacious and open. While in theory the drawers were important, in the end they were something that made the room just feel tiny. The walkthrough on the side was so narrow it wasn't really functional. Don't be beholden to the drawers!

Diatomaceous Earth! In addition to everything your already doing, this will stop them dead in their tracks, and it's all natural. I had a similar freak out and the DE actually stopped the problem... by the time the exterminator got there the problem was already gone! Put it along baseboards, between box springs and mattresses and anywhere else you can think of!

I think I just found the perfect use for the extra rods I picked up from Ikea! That way I don't even need a nook to implement this! Thanks!

I'm gonna repeat a comment I saw above which I totally agree with... if you use it, nothing is wasteful. What's wasteful is something sitting in your drawer never to be seen until it gets thrown out.

And btw, I would TOTALLY die for that step n' shave - my bathroom is a tiled floor to ceiling 4'x6' box.... given the tiny corner that is my shower you can't believe the contortions I've found myself in!

One person's waste is another's treasure!
