I sand in the bathroom & vacuum a lot in between layers. I have a mask and a mighty mouse sander ($40 or so at home depot) so it goes fast. if I use spray paint, I make a tent with tarps and drop cloths- but I do have a window in there (would not attempt without one!!) regular painting I do in the living room, on a sheet or old shower curtain. I stripped a couple of pieces with that stinky stuff but hated it -- had to send the kids to sleep at a friend's house. oil paint is no good, it dries too slowly and smells gross. I spray with krylon (I use the shiny one with primer included) or paint with latex and rub poly on after it's properly dry. do not hurry the layers or the latex will be sticky forever! excellent dresser, I think the hardware needs to live with me here in brooklyn..

How To Refinish Furniture in an Apartment? Good Questions

I had similar visual clutter in my previous place. I went to Ikea and got the white Kassett boxes and magazine holders (lots of them - I measured and planned), white sheer cotton curtains that hung from high up to all the way down (you can also get white blinds for an more clean look- I was broke!) and all white bedding. That cleared so much of the visual mess that I started breathing again! In your room I would also spray the various dressers and closets white (not the bed..), put a couple of lovely plants on your windowsill, and yes - build or borrow some shelves for underneath. How about a simple mirror to expand the space? A picture with glass or plexi over your bed would also bounce light back. As for your clothes I can't tell but the white curtain idea is soothing if there is space. Worse comes to worse a white dress/suit bag (what are they called?) or two hanging on the wall near the door might help----and make you feel in control. You have a nice window - if light comes through, you have more than I ever had! Good luck!!!

My favorite gift was two little bottles of champagne. On the fifth day home we popped them with some grilled salmon - HEAVEN!

Hi,
I grew up in Paris and go back there (from NYC) all the time. I threw the stroller out when my youngest was 3, couldn't stand the cobble stones. Carry the little one as much as you can. My kids loved the Parc the Luxembourg playground, and the kiddie science thing at the Villette (Cité des enfants, good from 2yrs and up). When we needed peace and quiet, we would take the métro to the Parc the Sceaux and have a picnic. Still do :)) Paris is lovely with kids as long as you stay away from the Louvre and other places with long lines (Beaubourg has some squashed up cars, popular with the 4 year old set). Enjoy!!

Your house is serene and awesome and makes me feel like leaning my cheek against the stone walls and those very tactile floors. Could you tell me where to get 'surplus industrial wool felt'? Would it be soft enough for a teenager who likes to walk barefoot? The little naked guy in the corner is perfect!
