if you've ever watched Dexter, every computer and phone makes the most tech-y and unrealistic sounds: from a progress bar to the opening of a file folder. it makes you start to wonder whose nephew needed a job in sound design.

i've always been tempted to roast seeds from other squash this time of year (they can't be that different).

another method i've always relied upon is to put them in some water, as shown above, then place a loose plastic bag over them in the fridge. this prevents them from dehydrating in the low-humidity environment.

i tucked in and pinned down landscape fabric in the planters, which has stopped the digging and squatting. sprinkle some peppermint oil on the fabric and the cats completely stay away - and the room smells obscenely fresh.

as for the leaves - i'm still working on that
