It's talent mothers used to pass on to their children but I think it died out in the late 60s. I learned that along with how to properly iron a man's shirt, make a white sauce, use a sewing machine, etc. Those were the days!

I spritz lavender/chamomile aromatherapy spray on the pillows before sleeping.

I think I'd put a colorful rug on the floor to warm up the look for the winter. I love it!

I agree with msmezzo - $700 and no kitchen?? New Yorkers definitely have my sympathy. I would be way too claustraphobic in 90 sf.

Yes - I love yarn, fabric and all sorts of needlework and am fortunate to have a craft room that I can't reorganize to my satisfaction. BUT, a wise woman in England told me not to worry. If you keep adding to your stash while you're still working, you won't have to worry about buying stuff to do when you're retired and on a fixed income. I love that logic!

I have one of these in my front hall closet and use it for winter accessories. Gloves go in the top bin, hats in the middle and scarves on the bottom. I had wanted to get rid of it but had an "aha" moment. So glad I kept it!

I think I'm pretty lucky. 1200 sq. ft. on the NW side of Chicago. 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath in a 2 flat with a big back porch and plenty of street parking. Have lived here over 10 years, was paying $980, think I was paying $875 when I moved in. I just got an increase and will be paying $1000 starting 1/1/11.

Wow, what an improvement! I would have given up and pitched the whole fixture. Great transformation.

I do it the weekend before Christmas - it makes it more special. Having the tree up too soon seems to take away the meaning of the holiday for me. I would put up outdoor decorations sooner though to take advantage of nicer weather, but wouldn't turn on any lights until after Thanksgiving.
