I honestly feel like an idiot for sending this question now. I'd only been here a week or so and my father in law was talking about how all the fresh food here isn't great and how he grew up eating canned food because that's all they could get. Turns out Anchorage from 40 years ago isn't exactly the same as Anchorage now! Since then I've moved into my own place and started cooking, and I can attest that the lemons here are about the same quality as the ones I bought in Seattle. Thanks for all the suggestions though everyone! Help! Is There a Good Substitute for Fresh Lemon Juice? Good Questions |

I should mention that it was the recalled exploding dutch oven from Martha Stewart via Macy's, hence needing a replacement. Sigh. A Big Pot of Delicious Soup (For One): 7 Soup Tips for Solo CooksCooking for One |

I usually make soup in an enameled cast iron dutch oven and I love my stick blender, but I recently replaced my pot and read the booklet that came with it--they specifically say not to use metal utensils with it. I've always followed that instinctively and used wooden or silicon spoons and such, but I never thought about whether my metal Cuisinart stick blender would ruin the enamel. Is it safe or do I need to transfer it to another bowl for blending? A Big Pot of Delicious Soup (For One): 7 Soup Tips for Solo CooksCooking for One |

My mother doesn't have special plates, but she does have good silver and serving dishes that we pull out for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a few other special occasions throughout the year. I'll probably always live near my mother so I have been perfectly fine without a special set of anything. Even if my husband and I move away, I doubt I will ever buy my own set. I'd keep and use hers (which her English parents brought with them when they immigrated) if I inherit them, but I think they'd probably stay with my older sister. It's cute, but how do they do anything with all that stuff on their counters? I don't understand the point. Michele & Ryan's Green Kitchen Kitchen Spotlight |

The first floor bathroom is lovely. There's no room for clutter and the light is actually on. In the rest of the house though there's so much stuff in such dark spaces that I can't fully appreciate anything. I don't know how you deal with so much stuff on your kitchen counters every day. Omoriala, that was where my mind instantly went as well. It's a nice room but wow, could the name be any worse? I don't see Navajo in the description at all so I'm assuming it's not Noa's blunder but AT's or the sponsor's. Whoever messed up needs to fix it. Noa's "Navajo" Room |

How much light does a fixture like this actually give off? It looks like it would be incredibly limited and only shine down in a small circle. All the pictures are lit with natural light and it doesn't seem like the lights themselves are on. These are beautiful, but are they practical at all? I just followed this tutorial to the letter only to get my new shade on and realize it was way too low. D'oh! I undid all my hard work, put everything back together except for the harp, and just slipped the circle base of the uno shade right around the cardboard covering the socket. It's perfect. You might try this first to see if the positioning is good enough for you before you rewire. I wish I had since it took less than a minute to put a new shade on my second lamp. This is great but honestly I'll probably never use it. I haven't used my printer in a year since I finished school. I bring my laptop or phone into the kitchen with me and the photos help me know I'm doing everything right and keep me motivated to work through a new recipe. Do you read your own site? This was posted (one day) less than a month ago. I found it again with a simple search for "crates." http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/dc/entryway/diy-entry-way-storage-theas-mania-152324 It's not a trend piece where repeat pictures are easily forgiven, no new information or ideas are added. The point isn't that tons of people have five kids and entertain large groups of friends and family weekly, but that people have reasons for owning large homes that you don't know and it's silly to judge without knowing anything about them. Not all large homes are new, not all are grandiose. You'd never guess how big her house is from looking at the outside; it's very unassuming. When you walk in it doesn't feel like a mansion because it isn't. It feels like a home. Live in the Home Alone House, No Matter Where You Live |

Your previous comment wasn't about the featured home, it was about how bitter you are that you can't afford a home in Seattle and you hope the homeowners enjoy the moss. I didn't flag you, but I can certainly understand why others did. Just let it go. For your information, people who live in Seattle tend to like the weather and the moss that comes with it--otherwise they wouldn't be living in Seattle. Roy & Dana's Greenbelt Home House Tour |

What's with all the hate on large homes today, everyone? Some people have big families and/or entertain many guests. My sister, her husband, their first child, and our mother live in a 3200 sq ft home that they plan to be in all the way through a fifth child. They also entertain 10-20 people at least once a week and have had two weddings at their home (mine and my brother's) since they bought it two and a half years ago. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't fit very well in 500 sq ft, especially by the time they finish having all the kids they want. Why is this an issue? We managed to do this to our pizza stone a few months ago. Not the soap, just the burned-on bits. Some pieces had also fallen to the bottom of the oven and burned on there and i had been a while since we'd last cleaned the oven, so we figured a self cleaning cycle with the stone still inside would do the trick. I got the ones I have all over my apartment at Costco. The brand is Feit Electric, I think, and I got the pack of four 100W replacements that use only 23W. They are the coil style and don't turn on immediately, but there's only a second or two delay and I barely notice it anymore. I love these bulbs. The back of the box lists the color temperature as "soft white," and my lampshades are all creamy linen colored so the light is just soft enough for me. They even look great in the bedroom!
