Asparagus. Used to hate it, forced myself to eat a stalk or two each time I was presented with the opportunity, now I love it and crave it and dream about it. My sister is currently trying the same with broccoli.

I just wish I could program myself to dislike things like soda and cookies.

@yosh
Agreed. Too much tortilla to the ratio of filling does not a tasty burrito make. That lunch may be nice and neat, but it doesn't look delicious. Wrapper overload.

If those red cups aren't disposable, what's the point? Just buy real martini glasses. I don't see the point in going for a kitschy red Solo cup look for that. It just looks cheap and your guests would probably throw them away.

@cassbass: If you had read the article, you'd realize that the mixer is right behind the head of the author's cat. I am also not a fan of cats on counters, but there's no need to be quite so snarky about it.

As for the mixer, doesn't everyone make their mashed potatoes in their mixer? Oh, they're so delicious that way. I just made some last night. I find they turn out better if you whip the potatoes first until smooth and then add the butter, cream, etc. Other things: pierogi filling, cakes, frosting, deviled egg filling (it's so creamy when done in the mixer), hummus (any kind of dip, really), lots of desserts (chocolate mousse, brownies, meringue, cookies of all sorts, cream pie filling, etc).

Out of curiosity, why does your wife hate when you use the mixer? The clean up? Because I just toss all that stuff in the dishwasher. What's the use of having a pricey mixer if you don't use it? Plus, if you're using it that means you're doing some cooking, which should surely please your wife. Good luck!

Aaaaahhh, packing cubes! I resisted them for so long thinking they were ridiculous, superfluous items. Instead they are magic, wondrous things that keep you organized at your destination and somehow cause your suitcase to hold twice as much as it did before. Love, love, love.

Sandy, I'm sorry that so many of the replies here have been excessively harsh. I would just like to add that as someone who is sensitive to cigarette smoke, the smell of it can affect people in ways you can't even imagine. If it wafted into my home, it would make my home absolutely unlivable for me. I can tell you try to be a good neighbor and that from your perspective a little cigarette smoke isn't such a big deal, but for someone like me, your cigarette would be a deal breaker. You may be dealing with neighbors who feel the same way. I wish you all good luck in coming to a workable solution!

I love Sherlock and John. Adore them. But every time I see 221B, all I can think is, "Man, it is dark and messy in there. I'd hate to be their flatmate."

Seriously, what is the Daily Mail smoking? Where are these $1500 2-bedroom apartments in DC, because I'd love to find one.

I thought the scene was hilarious, but I found myself wondering why he needs blankets everywhere if the apartment is always 80 degrees (a temp, btw, that would have me running for the hills--hills that are, hopefully, much cooler) and why on earth you'd keep chocolate-covered almonds out in the open mere inches from the toilet. Food out of the bathroom!

The problem with containers that hang on the inside of doors is that you lose the corresponding space inside the cabinet so that your containers won't knock against stuff when you close the doors. It's useful for organizing, but it doesn't really gain you any space.

Wilton has lots of great stuff and you can get it all at Michael's, with those 40% off coupons they always have. I took a cake decorating class at Michael's to learn some basic techniques and it was a lot of fun (although I left each night feeling like I was covered in sugar.)

One tip I would give you: go for the disposable piping bags. You can get a huge box of them for pretty cheap and it's so nice not to have to scrape frosting out of a plastic bag and wash it out. I figure the water I'd waste washing out the bags offsets the plastic waste of the disposables. Plus you always have plenty of bags for making different colors and frosting and switching back and forth.

Can't wait to buy it, just the same.

I've tried (I think) every reuseable bag out there. My favorites are Rumes. They hold everything under the sun, are super tough, and I prefer their handle positioning to the Baggus. They're easier to sling over your shoulder, which is my preferred way of lugging groceries.

Hooray for reuseable bags!
