Here is a link to an artist that does something similar with robots. He calls them "corrected paintings". My husband loves them.

I feel like babies will get plenty of stimulation from the colorful toys and I prefer having a more calm and soothing nursery as well.

I don't think that it was chocolate brown that was overused, it was the combination of chocolate brown and pink or chocolate brown and pastel blue that was overused. Brown is a neutral and I personally love. I wish the market would produce more products for nurseries that were not pastels or primary colors. Or only pink for girls and blue for boys. I am so tired of every toy or nursery decor item being pink or blue. Even pastel yellow and green, ugh! What about a nice grass green?

Actually this company carries a swivel glider mechanism as well.

I purchased the swivel glider mechanism for an existing chair that I owned that needed upholstering anyway. My husband could have installed the mechanism, but I asked the upholsterer to do it for us. Our baby isn't here yet, but it works great! If your chair sags onto the mechanism when you glide, just have a board cut to the depth you need to prevent it from rubbing. We used a 3/4" board and it worked like a charm.

We are renting an old house that has a frameless mirror that takes up the whole space, then I propped a medium sized framed painting to one side of it and smaller framed sketch in front of that with a small figurine grouped with them and a vase of cork screw willows on the opposite side.

Maybe balloon roman shades like the 5th picture on the site below. Keep them the same length at the bottom.

Or just curtain panels on one rod above, so you can't tell the windows are at different heights.

How about go fish, bobbing for apples on strings tied to a tree instead of in water (that is kinda gross), paint small pumpkins, feeling guts and eyeballs (spaghetti and skinned grapes), popcorn balls, pixie sticks, and scary sounding music.

Great idea. Just remember when turning garages and closets into usable rooms, they don't usually have air vents, unless you have them added.

You could do small round green rugs for lily pads that match the green in the bed or the quilt and place on the opposite side of the room near the crib or changing table. Maybe put a stuffed animal frog on a shelf or on your rocker to pull it all together.

I think a solid green quilt like the one from Westelm would look great! You might can find it cheaper at Ikea or somewhere else. Maybe light aqua sheets or white with green polka dots would be cute. I know I have seen them somewhere. Check out links below for something close:

I don't have children and I do have a dishwasher. You can always get a dishwasher after the baby arrives. Why don't you tell her, you want to wait and see if you decide that you need one. You might have another suggestion of a baby present she can contribute that you really do need. People are different. Some people really hate doing the dishes (me) and some people don't mind it or it is part of their daily routine or would just rather the money be spent on something else. I think she is trying to help and really wants to contribute in someway. Why not give her something else she can do and focus on.

I could totally see, with careful designing, that this doll house could double as a play kitchen, shelves, tool bench. Maybe just a few topper pieces that can be added or removed depending on what the child chooses to play with at the moment.
