@ EnglishRosie I love this idea of putting appliance manuals onto the iPad. Gonna do that! Day 14: Get Papers & Files in Order Apartment Therapy January Cure |

@Jennifer from Meals, Squared Thanks for sharing your pics Jennifer. They are inspiring. Have you considered painting the frames in your entry hall black also? I noticed one was already black. Day 14: Get Papers & Files in Order Apartment Therapy January Cure |

@Iphigenia, I keep a composition notebook for this purpose. Each month has its own page. I have 6 columns = Biller, Bal. Due., Min. Req., Amt. Pd., Due Date, & Ref. #.It goes back to July of 2000 (which was the last time I paid any late fees). In the left margins I've written the biller's name = power co., cable co., mortgage, car, cr. cards etc. I do this for the next month immediately after I've paid/scheduled all my bills on or around the 2nd of the current month. It helps me anticipate what's coming. For example, every six months I have a car insurance bill due, so once I've paid that bill (say in January) I'll turn 6 pages, mark the top of that page with that month (July) and then put the biller's name (ins. co.) and the anticipated amount due. I realize I'm a little compulsive about this, but my paper trail is so small and I now have a 12 year old record of all my expenses and moves in one little notebook. I hope this helps a little. I'm a little compulsive about my paperwork. Money's super tight, and I absolutely HATE paying late fees for my mistakes. I receive my bills through email (even medical bills) which means less actual paper mail to deal with, and so I immediately file them in their efiles. I pay/schedule all of my bills on or around the 2nd of the month. My Mortgage, car note, and investments are all automatically paid (set up through my bank so that I have control of when to stop payments if necessary). The rest I schedule online (again, through my bank). Therefore I have an e-paper trail going back to about 2004. I have one nice looking leatherette file box for things that I can't do online, but I'm hoping to splurge on a scanner soon. Then that box can hold warranty papers for our bikes and appliances. Oh, I do have a shredder for those questionable papers that come in the mail. Can't be too careful. I warned you, I'm a little compulsive about this. @brittanybreslin, I use one of those fabric not metal over the door shoe storage thingies. The mesh pockets help me to see what's in them. Also, since I have sliding closet doors, I've hung the pockets on a wooden hanger at one end of my closet rod along with my clothes. As for my undies, I don't fold them. The extra work is unnecessary, and the stack won't fall over if I simply lay them on top of each other. Have you thought about purchasing 2-3 plastic stacking drawers. They fit inside my closet for the little things. Hope this helps a little. Decluttering Tips: Shedding Clothes from Your Closet |

In attempting to get rid of clothes I've tried several different methods. One that I tried totally backfired. It was the turn your hanger around as you wear your clothes. Well, I wore all my clothes just so that I wouldn't have to give them up. Even though I didn't like how they felt, and I didn't like how I felt in them. NOW, I've tried this new method I believe I heard right here on the Cure. I ask myself the question "Would I purchase this if I saw it in a store right now"? This method works for me. I have a couple of bags full of clothes I was attached to for no good reason. AND, I can reach and see the clothes I really like. YAY the Cure!!! We have "Family Night" at church tonight, so this will be easy. I love the ideas about "no tech nights". We're going to begin one in our home. Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure |

My feeling is if you're renting and something is broken in the home then you most definitely can call the landlord to fix it. It should be part of your lease/rental agreement or contract. Day 8: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Kitchen Cleaning & Make Yourself a Meal Apartment Therapy January Cure |

I'm so loving this Cure! On day 4 I was having difficulty removing ugly furniture. Imagine. By the end of the day, after reading all of the blogs, I was so inspired and removed EVERY piece that I didn't like. However, one piece that I love (an iron based round wood topped table) didn't fit in the room. I removed it, and measured to cut the top to a 5 inch smaller diameter. Now it fits! LOVE it. Thank you all for sharing and inspiring. Liveblogging Day 6: Art that Makes You Smile and Makes You Think Liveblogging the January Cure |

I'm stuck... can't seem to get myself to give up any pieces, even though 1/2 of them are hand-me-down junk pieces. Any suggestions? Anyone? Day 4: Get a Fresh Perspective in Just 10 Minutes Apartment Therapy January Cure |

Does it count if I cut some holly berry branches from my holly berry bush, or do I have to purchase flowers from the shop? Day 3: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Floors, Green Cleaners & Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure - Day 3 |

Six square mirrors from a style I thought I liked. They were hanging in a hallway at the end of stairs. I kept seeing myself walk down the steps and would get freaked out. Have hung a "Family Rules" picture up instead. Also, an undershirt that's just too darn small. 8 cookbooks I've wanted to use for many years and moved several times. Many clothing items, and two pair of shoes. I think I've been wanting to do this for a while. Liveblogging Day 2: Outbox It! Liveblogging the January Cure |
