The chalk board paint is a good idea. Wall stickers - ETSY has tons of unique ones, are a good way to spruce up the walls and easily removed. I would add a colorful area rug to hide the ugly carpet and place furniture in front of the doors. A tall bookcase should do the trick for at least one problem door. Blocking and locking the door to the outside is key! Maybe taking the closet door off and storing it then adding fabric curtains in a fun colorful print would help as well. Don't forget PLANTS!!!

I roll our larger stuff and store them in cardboard mailing tubes, which come in various lengths. I label each tube according to the school year. It seems to work pretty well, as storing the tubes is pretty easy.

LOVE the bed! Where's it from? Is that storage or a trundle bed under there?

I save somethings in a portfolio folder and once a year, right around their birthday, I roll them all up and put them in a cardboard mailing tube and label the tube with the child's age and dates. Then start all over for the next year. It seems to be easier to store these tubes, plus the work is well protected. I guess this is kind of old school as compared with digital photo books.

Crazy Forts or EZ Forts are a fun thing to do at home. A membership at the local YMCA is good idea - classes, swimming, aerobic stuff...when my kids were little I would sometimes go in just to take an extra long shower (kids were in child care of course).
