We painted our nursery Valspar's jalapeno jelly after seeing Gus' room. We'd tried color sample after color sample, and thanks to the quality of light that room receives, nothing looked good. Even a fresh coat of white paint managed to look dirty, and I won't even mention what yellow paint looked like. But Gus' green...perfect. Great for a boy or a girl, and it's just so darn happy. It is bold, but we're balancing it out with lots of neutrals. Green Kids' Rooms Roundup |

Good to hear that this works indoors as well. I thought my pollen allergies were going to impede my ability to use the bleaching power of the sun, which was a bummer because I've heard it's so amazing you'll almost want to get poo stains to see the magic happen. Our local news just posted a spring cleaning article that suggests you call animal shelters to see if they want your stuffies. Seems kitties like to play with them while they're waiting for adoption. Donating Toys: Do a Little Research Make and Takes |

Not that it isn't a fantastic mural, but to a couple without immediate (or any) plans for children, it looks like a lot of work. It probably looks like a lot of work to new parents who would prefer to fully customize the nursery to their specifications, as well. I would paint over it. nenasajije, the website says that if you have sensitive skin (I do, and Gain was the only detergent---including several "free and clear" formulas---that I wasn't allergic to) to wash your clothes two or three times in Charlie's before wearing them. Something about removing the residues from your previous detergent, otherwise your clothes may be itchy. It sounds like a pretty big PITA. Just wondering if anyone else had this experience/followed those directions. What Are Your Favorite Baby Cleaning Products? |

For anyone using Charlie's: do you really have to wash your old clothes 2-3 times in Charlie's before wearing them again? It sounds like such a drag, but I like the idea of being able to use one detergent for dipes and everyone's clothes. We were going to wait until the baby came and we had to switch, but Gain (which we love) changed their formula and now stinks to high heaven, so we've got to find something new ASAP. So, any real-world experiences with the wash thrice before wearing warning? What Are Your Favorite Baby Cleaning Products? |

orangeblossom, I would imagine that adding some beans or another type of small weight to the open part of the hoop, then covering the opening with lightweight cardboard affixed with a reasonably strong glue would work. Might take a wee bit of experimenting, but it seems like something simple along those lines would work. Fabric Embroidery Hoop Wall Art Inspiration |

I made a few of these using woodland fabric and these weird rubberized faux bois embroidery frames that Michaels had on sale. I unapologetically hate sewing, but I love fabric, so this was a very attractive idea. They look great, and they're also really cheap to make...almost free if you have a dedicated stash of fabric scraps. My husband loves the ones I made and keeps asking when we can hang them in the nursery (soon enough). Fabric Embroidery Hoop Wall Art Inspiration |

I totally agree with Kaete. The trivializing of mental illness is very frustrating for someone who has a mental illness (I swear if I hear another teenage girl declare that her friend is "OMG, acting so bipolar"...). Are Children Hoarders Or Collectors? LA Times |

Ok, so our decision to have a baby wasn't exclusively based on the fact that we'd have an excuse to play with toys again, but it wasn't not a consideration, either. These look fantastic, and they're reasonably priced enough that we can have a set at home and a set at gram's (who will undoubtedly appreciate the fact that these look less painful to step on than Duplos/Legos). I have a cast-iron wok that came with a bamboo scrubber and that baby + water gets it done on stuck-on rice and egg. The kosher salt trick works on the rest of my cast-iron cookware, which is easier to clean than anything else in my kitchen. Even easier than non-stick (which of course we don't use...well, except the pan we keep around for crepes). How To Do It Better Guide: Tough Cleaning Jobs |

Unless your friend is a Dugger, there's no reason not to celebrate her having another child. I'm guessing she just wants to get together with everyone to celebrate the birth of the second child and knows that people are going to bring gifts, even if she explicitly says not to. I'm making this assumption because this has happened at every single "no-gifts-please" baby shower/wedding shower/housewarming that I've ever attended. Any chance for a tutorial? I showed this to my husband and he got really excited at the prospect of making one. We'd have to cat-proof it if it isn't already, though...toddler height is also cat-standing-on-his-back-legs height. Custom Toddler Height Aquarium |

I have mixed feelings. The lack of clutter appeals to the little girl in me that grew up in a very messy, cluttered home. As others have noted, however, the color gets me down. My bedroom was painted stark white when I was a kid and I hate-hate-hated it. I can promise you it did nothing to stimulate my imagination. The helicopters also get me. I know lots of boys who love anything that flies and have helicopters motifs in their rooms, but these are creepier than the clown paintings in my grandma's spare bedroom. Depends. With friends, I never lie. I like everyone I associate with voluntarily, and they know that I genuinely like them regardless of whether I make it to a party or not. I have nothing to gain from lying. Family, though...oh do I ever lie. With the exception of my dad and mom, who share my values, my family is not enjoyable to be around. I don't feel as if I can decline an invite by saying "no thanks, I don't feel like spending the afternoon eating at Cracker Barrel listening to you tell racist Obama jokes", so I just say I've got another engagement. i never say what that other engagement is. Rosie, now that I look at the built-in, I realize that it's the paneling behind it that I dislike so much...maybe it would work to just paint that. I really like the cabinet fronts, and a little contrast could really work. Design Ideas for Dark Paneling, Brick and Built-ins? Good Questions |

I would paint the paneling and built-ins for sure. I would also take out the metal insert thingy (I think we should make that the official term). THEN I would decide on the brick. I think once you change everything else you'll want to change the brick, but that's a bigger job than painting. It doesn't seem like it would hurt to see if you can avoid some harder work by making easier changes first. Design Ideas for Dark Paneling, Brick and Built-ins? Good Questions |

Probably correlates with the study that says that a man doing his fair share of the chores increases a woman's desire to have sex with said man. I'm unemployed and expected to do at least 85% of the housework. Unfortunately, that percentage doesn't really change when I do have a job. When we visit our in-laws, it becomes glaringly obvious how my husband developed his attitude about household division of labor. When I visit my parents, it become glaringly obvious why I feel like I have to put up with it. Does Sharing Housework Make Men Happier? |

I did this for our annual winter party many years ago, and honestly can't remember why I switched to other decor for centerpieces. pier723, I make and use the centerpieces the same day. You could probably get by with making them a day ahead, though. Cranberries last really well in a bag in the fridge, but get kind of gross if they're left in water very long.
