MsDonnaGirl, I only have to clean my car every now and then too. I have no kids (so backseat is never dirty) no animals, and I live in a mild climate so no snow, not too much rain, etc. Again, it's the readers list for herself.

the carbon footprint info means that the artificial tree footprint is so HIGH that it would take 20 years of using it to equal the carbon footprint of 20 years of real trees

yes?

It's true though. Sometimes the "real tree" you can afford won't look as good as the fake... cause I can only afford the Charlie Brown tree in the corner of the lot. Haha!

Cally, speaking of wasting water "just so you can waste gas and time mowing..." I just moved to Dallas from the East Coast and the guy that cuts our lawn recently asked us if we wanted to plant "winter seed" for the grass. When we asked why he said it was to keep the grass green all winter. Are these people CRAZY?!? Now I'm supposed to have green grass all winter long? When we said "NO" he told us we should probably let our neighbors know that we will not be doing it and will not have pretty green grass like theirs. Sometimes I feel like I have lost my mind here!!

Thanks for this thread!

I hate going places when it feels like "work." While I'm all for meeting new people, I enjoy doing so in the comfort of my friends and family that are in the same space as well. Why should I be separated from them when I came to enjoy the time with them?! You would be surprised to find out that people you may think are "outgoing" suddenly become shy when assigned to sit next to someone they don't know.

Oh and I'd be totally upset if I can't sit by my husband--not that I need him around me all the time but we enjoy things together and enjoy chatting about the food, wine, etc. It's comforting to know if you drop your fork on your neighbors lap, it's not going to be a big deal.

Friends Thanksgiving Retrospective

I recently had a house warming party and in one of the spare bedrooms that didn't have much to mess up, I set up the TV and the kids that were over enjoyed a movie together. They must not have come out of that room for nearly three hours. After that, it was time for dinner anyway. I don't have kids myself and I don't think that it's too hard to keep them entertained, no matter the age.

Also, it's not that some of these people value things over their company... it's just the simple fact that NOT having kids allows you to have a different lifestyle. I mean, even when we got a dog a friend told us to walk on our hands and knees around the house to see what could possibly be entertaining... and it was a lot! That stuff was only there because we didn't have to worry before. It's not placed there because I value it over you. Plain and simple!

When Kids Are Coming To Your House

OK, clearly most of you didn't get that this post is about unique gifts... you don't have to buy exactly what is above but it's meant to inspire you to think OUTSIDE the box of typical gifts like wine... none of you are suggesting anything creative or inspiring.

I'm not particularly a fan of every item listed... but at least I would be able to appreciate someone going above and beyond to bring me something creative and original. And I don't think you have to keep those wooden flowers and set them out everytime that person comes back over... that's a little absurd I would never expect that. I'm glad I'm not spending my holiday's with such ungrateful people!
