I also really enjoy Cooking Light. I recently subscribed to Clean Eating and I think it's kind of eh. I'm not sure if I'll keep it.

I'm on board with Liefie... what material would you prefer? I think there are drawbacks to every kind of countertop. However, I abhor my ceramic sink for the same reason you hate your granite - you have to be very careful with glass and other fragile items. I long for a stainless sink. :/

I just got my power back on here in CT after 4 days, and threw out all meat and everything dairy - Ranch dressing, mayo, eggs, milk, yogurt, etc. It was sickening seeing all that money go into the trash, but I figured it would be better to toss it all than be cursing myself later for being cheap after getting food poisoning.

I have butterflied chicken in this way a few times and I so badly want to like it. As much as I psych myself up beforehand, I end up grossing myself out upon cutting through the back and then cracking the breastbone and lose my appetite.
Will a butcher do this for you if you ask, because I just don't think I can stomach doing it on my own anymore. :/

I don't understand why people take these shows and blogs soooo seriously. I've been a reader of PW's blog for a few years now, and it doesn't take much to figure out that she comes from money and she also married into money. Big deal. She doesn't claim to be a girl raised on food stamps.
Her recipes, I think they are hit or miss, but I still enjoy her photos and reading about her daily life. Whether or not her stories are 100% true or fiction is besides the point. It's mindless entertainment and if I wanted to read something truthful, I'd read the newspaper.
I like her site because it is interesting to me and that is why I watch her show. Her website has come to life for 30 minutes on Food Network, and while she's little awkward on tv, I like her just the same.

I'm anxious to try this out, but here's a question that I'm not sure has been posed... I have an electric stovetop, so turning the heat down on the element doesn't cut the heat as quickly as a gas stove. Have electric stove users had any issues with the decrease in heat, or am I just overthinking? :)

Alison, I completely agree. I was just commenting on this to my boyfriend after the post last week on saving at Organic Grocery Stores.
With no coupons available for fresh vegetables , I try to buy them as much as possible from farm stands and farmer's markets. If it's the dead of winter, I usually stick to frozen veggies, as they tend to be equally as healthy. Also, if you can, I would recommend planting a vegetable garden next spring. This has been a great saver for me.
Aside from veggies, I devote alot of time to selecting recipes that fit within my budget and also have as few processed ingredients as possible.
I know these aren't solid recommendations, but I feel your pain and this is what I do to stay healthy and attempt to keep my own costs down. You do have to devote some time into it, but it is possible!
Good luck!

I,too, have a god-awful electric stove, and when I need to move my pan to a lower heat, I just pick it up and wait for the burner to cool down. Or, like others have said, I just move it to a cold burner that is off.
Someday, sigh, someday, I will have a gas stove.

I buy bottles, but make sure to recycle them weekly. I never throw them in the trash. At work, I have a nalgene and drink filtered tap water.
