I painted the backsplash white and used window film over it. It's removable and it comes in beautiful patterns and colors. When it gets yucky, I just replace it. If you choose not to use a pattern,you can use the clear or frosted film. It keeps spills and grease off of the walls. I also use clear film in my bathroom on the wall nearest the toiles since I have very clumbsy sons. I can wipe it clean easily and replace it monthly.
