A recipe book I have has these in them. They have a note that it was a housewife in Nanaimo that entered a competition with her "chocolate squares" recipe and called them Nanaimo Bars. Haven't tried the recipe yet but custard powder is something I have in my pantry all the time, should give it a go!

bkk - now you've got me craving a caramel slice, the high school canteen used to make great ones! :P

Love flannel sheets. We don't have heating in our house and our house isn't insulated and there are parts in the walls and floors where you can see outside (ah, the joys of old houses) so the flannel sheets are something very important in winter (even though it doesn't snow here). I can't imagine trying to get into bed in the middle of winter with normal cotton sheets - freezing!

Our 2.5 year old sleeps well in his coverted cot, there is no room in his bedroom for a single ("twin") bed.

We move to a bigger house in December and then he'll be sleeping in a king single (that a friend gave to us for free...we just have to get a mattress for it!).

Because his cot coverted to a toddler size bed we didn't consider buying a specific toddler bed.

It's not wallpaper, it's a stencil :)

I bought one of these for my Mum for her birthday. She loves to travel (and planning to travel) and can probably scratch off about half the map!

This looks so cool! My Mum has 3 penfriends (Finland, Singapore and Hong Kong) and we loved learning new cultures and traditions as kids (and still now!). Would love this for my son...but they don't send to Australia :-(

My son seems to buck the trend. He eats a wider variety of foods than I do. e.g. I don't eat seafood and he loves it!

Great job!

I'm got some wooden doors that I wanted to paint white but with a "shadow" shape of the original wood underneath. This proves that it works...and that it looks awesome :-)

I didn't go to uni, but I could figure out the IKEA one. And it's the best one I've ever used *shrug*

I love this. The colours are great and I love the telegraph pole sillouettes, very cool :-) And my favourite part - the budget! Amazing job.

RE: the boots. These are what UGG boots are made for! They are slippers to keep your feet warm in winter.

It's a constant source of amusement to me that people in other countries wear them out of the house and not just to check the letterbox! ;-P

Those cutting boards from AHeirloom are really nice. Shame the Australia one is missing an entire state...

Computra - out of 43 comments I was surprised to see that yours was the only one to recommend a toilet roll holder like that. Are these not commonplace in North America?

You can buy them everywhere in Oz...thought they were popular all over the planet :)

We have a small bathroom with a door that doesn't shut (let alone lock!) and a very flatulent father-in-law (due to treatment for prostate cancer). We all just laugh it off :)

Never thought about putting cocoa powder in my son's semolina. He is quite happy to have it with just a little bit of honey, but I'll keep this idea for when winter rolls around!

What a great project! Love it :) I love seeing things repurposed. I'm just kicking myself that I didn't take pictures of the old futon frame before my hubby turned it into a mantle piece!
