When you live in a small space, having less helps. But, realistically, if you have varied interests, hobbies and/or sports activities, you may well also need and use a garage and storage locker(s), as we do.

I live and work in a one-bedroom apartment -- we cannot possibly store our clothes, shoes, linens and kitchen things in the apartment by also adding large, bulky things like skis and ski boots, golf clubs, a bike, baseball gear and gardening pots in the winter. We pay extra for these spaces, but they allow us to stay tidy and uncluttered.

Love the disco ball -- and all the sparkles it throws around the space.

Grege Avenue or antique ivory; your rug is pink/red and your table is pink...none of the other colors relate to these, and the greens would seem odd.

I'd strongly suggest painting the door and surround the same color as whatever wall color you choose...having the door and surround remain white/cream draws attention to it and why would you do that?

When I met my husband, one of the many things I found so attractive was his (rented) apartment and his sense of style. He moved into my (owned) one-bedroom apartment and we've been here 12 years.

I've studied design professionally and we're both photographers (he professionally), so he trusts my eye. His taste was more modern and his ultimate design dis is "too granny" which has stopped me from a few purchases. Generally, we share a strong appreciation for beauty, color and a lovely home.

If you travel frequently, keep your passport/green card/currencies handy in one place. As soon as I get back from one of my frequent trips to Canada (from the US) I put all my Canadian cash in a plastic bag with my passport and always keep it in the same place. It's nice to have cash handy as soon as you cross the border, especially when driving.

In the bowl by the front door that holds keys, I also keep a roll of stamps, so I and I my husband always know where they are.

A document well worth creating, and updating every few months, lists every bit of data someone might need to know about you if you're suddenly very ill, comatose, in an accident. It happens and your business/finances/health can be hurt if someone you trust can't access the information they need quickly.

I print it out and make sure my husband always has the latest version; when single, one of my parents would have it and sometimes a close, trusted friend. It includes my medical history (dates and procedures and surgeries and diagnoses and all doctor contacts); all bank info and PINs; all investment info; current debt payments (when and to whom), etc. It has all my passwords as well.

This is one of my favorite AT tours ever -- none of the usual design cliches, no "don't touch" perfection. I love the sunny rooms, the charm, the tiny balcony. It looks like fun, warm people live here and enjoy themselves. Clutter -- so what? I bet that little girl is much happier than in some pristine Designed Space.

Our bedroom -- 10 x 12 facing northwest -- is painted Sherwin Williams Modern Gray, which is also our dining room color. Love it: warm, subtle, soft, but never boring or cold.

This is our friends' home! I knew I recognized it. We were lucky enough to spend a week there a few summers ago. Heaven.

While some of the furnishings aren't as lovely as the design, the proportions are terrific -- those tall windows and doors. Love the kitchen's glass walls and the sense of light and space. What a pleasure to design in and live in your own home. Very few designs work so well 52 years later.

Gorgeous.

I think the bedroom rug is amazing; never see those colors. I love how calm and edited this apartment is.
