i LOVE this project, too. In fact, over the past couple days I have been slowly working on doing the same with white electrical tape on my renter-white walls. The effect is subtle but the daylight and lamps at night make them the satin-finish tape shine differently throughout the day.

the living room is not my style but i am definitely 'feeling it...' :)

i just think he hit the style he wanted on the nail. nice balance of cool & contemporary but warm & kitschy which brings out the personality.

the bedroom 'window' is pretty funny but funny gets me relaxed and lifted -- perfect for a mini bedroom oasis.

even though this apt is unfinished (and too much so to be in this contest) i would definitely like to live here!

i think the hallway is the best part (has the most 'solid' feeling of intent) but maybe it's because the photo was taken without a flash (as MODFAN noted above).

there's something about the living room furniture -- it looks good but if i was asked to sit i'd expect them to feel stiff, uncomfortable and even confrontational to me! maybe add some softer, cozier textured pillows. and a leafy plant for some moral support.

the apartment just needs some warmth and personality -- and maybe that will come in time if what we are we seeing is the fresh work-in-progress.

ahh.. seeing this is like bumping into an old favorite friend.

I still have the original post linked in my del.icio.us as design inspiration...

i can't believe that was 2005!!

it's a dream come true to find a customizable foam handsoap dispenser! i keep buying the Method foam soaps but i really don't like the scents -- now I can pick any fancy soap i want (an apparently make it last a decade with how much dilution is involved)

Does anyone know of any other styles or seen them in NYC stores?

i keep my keys hanging on the deadbolt handle. Since I live by myself, if i'm touching the deadbolt that means i'm leaving or coming home - so really, it's the perfect reminder and closest location.

actually, you were initially correct if you were saying that 'matching' is so happy-making!

but if it's 'matching hangers'...well, shame on you! [only kidding]

i learned from my college roommate to only buy white hangers. that saved me lots of decision making moments over the past decade. but every now and then i throw in a few wooden ones which i think still look good in the mix.

yah. i kinda love this apartment.
it's the other end of the spectrum from me (whimsical and colorful) but it speaks volumes to me.

i'm mostly impressed with the solid but subtle sense of style. everything is well-thought out and in line with her unwavering style. i even love the shoes.

i'm so glad i can now page back to the posts i missed in the last day or two!

this new design is also very successful in getting me to check out the sister blogs (that i've always known they were there, but never bothered to visit)

but in the end, i still don't like the new redesign -- it feels cold and as if the close-knit community has been burst open to the whole country. as lovely and as crowded as Target on a Saturday afternoon.

i have this and i'm actually a "girl" -- it's perfect for my studio because it has a small footprint but good sound. and it matches my cute little flatscreen.

I actually bought a USED homereserve sofa off craigslist a year ago. i just needed a quick-fix sofa for my new studio and the ability for me and my friend to move it in 1 cab ride was beyond convenient.

I washed all the covers so they were like new and put the whole puzzle-piece sofa together in barely any time. it was actually very fun and satisfying to do.

The back cushions are very thick and soft. the arm and seat cushions feel like memory foam -- firm but very giving. in fact, my back enjoys sleeping on it more than my $1000 mattress.

The sofa is very comfortable but i have to say the seat is too shallow -- there is no couple cuddling on this sofa. but now i'm coming back to homereserve to purchase an ottoman to create more sofa 'space' and am also considering changing my fabric covers for a new look and also because.... i just can (and for only $109).

just wanted to add - for those who want a little "Subway Tile Style" cheaply .. CB2 has this bathmat on sale for $14.99. For such a minor detail it actually added a lot of texture and character to my bathroom!

[When not in use i hang it on the bathtub]

I really don't like fake bertoias because i just don't like the balance of the seat back, which is too too tall on fakes. There's not much to a bertoia chair so a change in shape balance is glaring and unignorable to me.

i think the home reserve sofas look more 'sophisticated' (considering they too are puzzle-piece sofas) and for a much lower price point...
