Please, No!!! Not only is the advice pretty superficial, but this is NOT the place for this!

I like it - esp the warm blue-grey with the bright green door! I agree that trimming the large picture window in black would relate better to the windows on the right side. I also agree that toning down the white (esp. the garage) might be an improvement. Overall, though, it is a great job distinguishing an otherwise generic house design.

I wonder if any changes have been made in the facade since the original posting. I agree that the front facade could use some tweeking. IMO some minor changes could improve the front - changing the door color (a strong green might be nice) and covering the white and gray panels with wood (either of the colors of the wood used on the house) might work to strengthen the bottom box of the front facade.

Interesting comment thread! I appreciate the range of opinions and reactions available on AT. Regarding comments being overly negative, I think that the AT community sometimes gets on a roll, but diversity of opinion is what makes this site so interesting. Although AT polices the posts for tone, I find the tone is also moderated by having the person whose work/room/home is being featured participate in the discussion as well. It seems to reduce the urge for what can seem like "piling on". Absence of input by the contributor, along with a sense that dissenting opinions are being censored just fuels that urge.

If people ask what I would like, I oblige. Other than that, I am not invested in what I receive (or don't receive). If I had significant unmet needs and people were giving things that I could not use, then I could see being a little more invested in guiding those who were planning to spend money on me anyway. Short of that, though, I just don't really "get" being an adult who is invested in what Mom or Dad buys me. Someone thinking enough of me to want to give me a gift is appreciated, whether or not I have need for the item s/he purchases or makes.

I think it depends on whether you like the look of the blank wall, or if you would like something in that space. Doing something with that cubby only seems so off-balance because the rest of the wall is blank. If you like the blank expanse, then remove the frame and drywall over it. If you want some other adornment on that wall, you have lots of options in terms of scale and number of objects.

Not looking forward to a voice-activated home. I can't get with speaking to inanimate objects, especially those with a recorded/generated human voice (particularly despise speaking to the disembodied voices that are found on so many corporate phone systems).

Looks great! If you are having trouble seeing the raised hearth, look at the right side of the original photo. The glare in the left side of picture does make it look like a flat hearth, but look on the right side and you will see that it's raised.

The main issue I see is that when company does come you will have to sit fairly close beside each other, if you do not have other seating options. It is probably not a big deal, but I usually space out from others a little on a couch when given a choice. Can't imagine someone choosing to set on the end with no back too often.

I like the pink wall, but the scale of the bird seems small for that space. Cool kitchen

The wood adds a beautiful natural element that warms up the space. Just wondering how well it can be expected to function behind the stove with the abuse that this area takes (water/steam, oil). How is the wood finished?

I had a similar (negative) reaction to the name. However, after looking around the site, I made the assumption that the name was being used ironically, or at least that irony was the intent. That said, names are very powerful and the one chosen is extremely loaded and likely to be found offensive by many. The irony is by no means "clear" on first hearing/reading. "Deep, Dark" carries lots of connotations - obvious ones relating to skin color, exoticism, sinister nature, etc. I wonder how the name "sounds" to the various constituencies in South Africa. I would be surprised if this were the founder's first time getting a less than enthusiastic response to the name.

Yes, I would consider a lounge area diy if I had a space that needed something like this. Regarding this particular execution - I liked the pallets better unpainted and the additional application of the pallets as a storage area leads to a considerably less refined look in my eyes.

@home body. I believe the poster indicated that the windows extend too low to use the space under the windows as workspace (sink/counter/stove).

Option A (again). Maybe I am missing something, but I actually don't see how option C could work. It appears that one set of drawers (in the corner) could not be opened. Also, it seems odd to have the fridge hanging out on the floor, unless you are planning to build a wall behind it and the sink, which would serve to close the kitchen off even more.

I like the wall treatment, the color scheme, the new mirror. Perhaps the sink skirt could be tailored so that it would hang straight, giving a cleaner line that might look a little better in the space (imo).

IMO the author's write-up did not do the contributor any favors, creating an "impression" of significant hubris that may have "colored" the way I saw the space. I do like the natural elements among the collection of modern furniture pieces: plants, puppy, and wood floor and cabinets.

Really don't see the need for such extreme security measures. Seems like paranoia gone overboard. Plus, if the mechanisms that open the house up ever failed in a major way, it really would be a prison.

Love the furnishing and the open, airy feel of the spaces and the use of natural materials. I must say that the kitchen almost looks like it belongs in another home. Nice kitchen, but the dark wood and large stainless appliances do not have the same feel as the rest of the home. The dark wood and lack of personal adornments and artwork that enliven the rest of the home leave the space feeling a little flat to me. But, what does my opinion matter? It's lovely home.

I like her and was glad when she won her own show. I don't like the style diagnostic aspect of her show. I am sure some producers thought it was a good idea, but it makes the show hard for me to watch.
