Has anyone noticed it's also blocking the fire place? Child proofing and fun in one package :-) We already have a play kitchen or I'd be tempted to attempt this.

At work we taped a sharpie to a string next to the fridge and had a note that unlabeled and undated food would be removed and that anything over a week old except condiments would be removed. Then when it was time to clean the fridge I could throw away things without guilt.

As a mother of a toddler I feel stressed just imaging how much quickly my child would destroy that room. If I was asked to change a diaper of any age baby there I'd grab the changing pad and throw it on the bed, too much for little arms and legs to knock over where it is. And yes, the bumper ties seem dangerous to me. But overall I really like the vibe, I'd just move everything higher if I was designing it.

But children have a way of teaching parents. My friend told me this story about having an eighteen month old and visiting her brother with a 5 month old. He had an alphabetized DVD collection which her son proceeded to dump. Her brother was furious. One month later his child was the one dumping it and he called to apologize ;-)

My inlaws will do things like make chicken soup the night before, cover it and serve it the next day, with no refrigeration in between. They're from a rural part of Mexico without refrigeration. I worked for a grocery store and was trained as a food safety specialist. We've lived with them for a few months at a time several times. It's not a pleasant situation. Over the years though I've relaxed and eaten many things they've cooked and never gotten sick. They never get sick from them. I'm more cautious with my children though and won't give them anything of grandma's that wasn't freshly made. It's a tough situation. I agree with the above poster who said they'd suggest putting the food away.

Unsafe Food Handling: Do You Say Anything to Your Host?

Most birthday parties here include parents unless specifically noted. I've never heard of a drop off party for a 2 year old. I have a 7 year old and I just hosted his first drop off party because our house is too small for kids plus parents. It was chaotic but fun.

A hostess gift would be nice, but not customary at all for birthday parties.

Since they're Americans living in France though it might be a bit different

Love the above party. I have a 1 year old and 7 year old and am looking forward to all the cute birthdays again with my younger one.

I know a lot of filipinos and have been to the Philippines 3 times. Don't mess with the rice! It needs to be plain white rice or it isn't a meal. We have a filipino preacher who stays with my family sometimes and he hates most US potlucks because he just wants some plain rice and if he finds any it's in a casserole.

Another thing is make sure there's ketchup on the table, or banana sauce. If you want you can make it pretty by putting it in a dish, but it's a necessary condiment.

Good luck! I was engaged to a filipino guy but the only cooking I did for his family was making guacamole which they declared gross ;-) I do agree that avocado milkshakes taste pretty good though.

I did it for my 3 year old son a few years ago, very yummy. Doing it again for his 6th as his soon to be brother shares his due date. It'll be 3 weeks after his real birthday and is being billed as a "DIY birthday/possibly meet the baby" party. We're providing the park space and plates/silverware/water/balloons/table cloths and bubbles. Our guests will bring the food. I get to sit on a bench with the baby and do nothing :-)

If it fits you best at this time I'd go for the two bedroom. We had secondary infertility with our second, 3 years later than planned he'll be born.

We were in a two bedroom apartment when he was conceived, which we were fine with till 18 months as the baby would just share a room with us, and now we find we're moving from California to Texas for work and we'll probably get a 3-4 bedroom there. There's no predicting where life will take you. If you're not buying I see no reason to get a bigger place than you need right now.

Bought and tried both varieties. Both hubby and I agree they are way too sweet. Still good for a on the run caffeine jolt. Hubby adds more milk to cut down on the sweetness and they taste decent then, though of course the coffee flavor goes down too.

I don't necessarily agree with Weston Price, but they have nothing to do with corn. They only recommend completely grass fed dairy products.

My husband is familiar with Miel de Agave from Mexico which is made from the sap of agave. He told me that it was crazy expensive and was surprised that it was sold so cheaply here. We were both very disappointed to find out that agave syrup is not the same thing.

I think it's cool that some fans of Trader Joe's put together that book. It's not by Trader Joe's though and sadly, a lot of the ingredients have been discontinued. There's still quite a few good ideas in there though.

I work at Trader Joe's in northern California, and we do not carry whole wheat pastry flour. Each region is different though, so yours may. We do carry white whole wheat flour, but I believe that is different.

I'm normally car free as my husband takes our car to work and since we work opposite shifts I'm rarely home at the same time as him. This summer however he's taking classes two days a week and there's a bus that can take him to school. It worked out perfectly that a mom from my son's preschool organized a playdate at a different park every Thursday, which is one of the days I have the car. My son and I are really enjoying visiting a new park every week.

There is something to be said for having a park that's "yours" though. Our apartment is next door to a park and we tend to see the same people every time we go so we have his "park friends"

I have no experience traveling internationally with kids, but the Ergo was the best baby purchase I ever made. Ours is just now retired at 4 years old, and I'm still keeping it available because we have 4lbs more before he officially outgrows it and he still loves it (at 36lbs he's too heavy for me now)

I also highly recommend bringing her car seat, as I've heard the same thing about rental ones and many countries don't even use them.
