If you're buying online often enough, Amazon Prime is, well, prime. Can't beat 2-day shipping on every order for only $79 a year, especially if you are ordering big items that normally have high shipping rates.

And what does it look like when it's not bright and sunny in the space to match the photo/drape? Fun idea for a week, then you'll get sick of living in a house of mirrors.

I don't think it was really worth it. If you read the article there's a breakdown of costs.

This is exactly what I would want, if only the maintenance wasn't so high...

I've been in this apartment - I was doing camera work on a short documentary a friend was directing on Peter, the guy who owns this apartment. It's crazy! So many interesting things to look at. Some kind of creepy too. There's a lot of moving parts to the place - strings that activate puppets and such. It's an awesome experience being in there, but I would never want to live in it.

Does anyone know what the sofas on the right are, the ones with the extremely high backs? I've been looking all over for something similar.

The only proper technique is the over under. This allows the cable to follow it's natural coil. This is the technique used by all electrics on film sets.

Great idea, but will stores actually allow this?

definitely a DIY opportunity. Gotta be cheap. My only concern is that cup rings would easily show up, but I guess if you could make them yourself I'd have little reservations about tossing the old ones and making more.

This article is caught up in all sorts of stereotypes. Some may be true, many of my friends just don't care what their place looks like, but this doesn't mean that they necessarily have no taste and can't do it, at least for the most part, by themselves. They just don't put home aesthetics on the top of their priority list. Growing up in nyc and being involved in a creative industry and considering myself a visual person, I find it important to surround myself with a pleasing space. And I think I have pretty good taste. Just because I'm a straight guy doesn't mean that I have beer signs on bare walls. I've never even met someone outside of a college dormroom that actually has one hanging on their wall. I actually find that accusation about bachelors insulting. I may be in the minority of single males with good taste, but Susan Fornoff's articles implies that there's not even one of us around.

That's the most incredible thing I think I've ever seen. Two things I've always wanted, a home theater and a bat cave, in one! Why didn't I think of that before!

I plan to change all of my light switches to insteon dimmers as well as the rest of my table and floor lamps. Then I plan on getting a universal remote with macro capabilities so that I can control my home theater system and all of the lighting in my apartment through the remote. I also want to put an "all off" switch by the door so when I leave I don't leave any lights on (saving electricity) and it also saves me the hassle of going around turning off individual lights every time I leave.

Realtor said my place was around 600 sf but turned out to be 530. Nevertheless, going into it I knew that most all real estate agents approximate on the high side so I took this into consideration when viewing. I'm not complaining because I knew what I was getting into. The space was the right size for me and at a comparable price to apartments of the same size, so the number didn't really matter all that much. If I was paying for a commercial space, where you pay by the sq ft, I would be pissed.

I don't know of any specifically, but they've got to be out there. Worst comes to worst, just drill a few holes in the existing base. Why do you need to secure it down anyway?
