Take the Cake and Snail's Pace Race are awesome. The Yoga Garden Game is also popular, as well as matching games... eeboo has a cute one.

Hug, Tumble Bumble, Time for Bed, Owl Babies, Secret Seahorse, I Love You Little One, Hungry Caterpillar and the chewed up Pat the Bunny - these are the board books I just can't bear to give away.

Loved "A Matter of Taste" - he seems compassionate and humble, rare traits in a master chef. Couldn't get into "Jiro Dreams of Sushi."

My husband and I will be decluttering and paring down in our bedroom. We started a redesign of the bedroom this summer with a lovely friend who helped us start to reclaim the space, and things have just been nuts since then. It feels so on the verge.... It will take a while, but purging the clothes, storing all the miscellaneous things, and getting me a 'real' nightstand will make that room much more soothing.

Love the question! We spend Black Friday setting up our home for the holidays. We listen to holiday music, get a small tree, hang a wreath, do holiday crafts, and dig out the green and red bins full of books, movies and toys that have been in hiding. One particular thing I thought was a waste of money was a holiday coloring book -- we got one for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc. But since they still haven't filled them and we have had them for nearly 5 years, so it's very neat to see how their artwork has evolved over time. Very cute.

We have also started doing a new advent calendar which I found here -- numbering and wrapping a christmas book for each day. The girls LOVE this, especially the 6 year old, and we only had to buy 1 (we love our xmas books!). Christmas was a big deal when I was growing up, but I have been surprised by how much these traditions mean to me now.

i do the wall calendar too -- i had been given a 1st year calendar for my older daughter and found it to be an easy way to write things down. after she turned one, i found a blank calendar -- it's intended for children to draw a picture on the top -- and now i write all the cute things they say and do and keep track of milestones that way. i found it be a neat archive when my second was born and we wondered, 'how old was the older one when she walked/sat up etc?' it's great fun to read through all the notes, and i'm sure she'll love it when she's older. her official baby book still thinks her sister is not-quite-born.... and she's two now! the calendar is much easier.

I'll second the trampoline -- we just got a good one, and my 6 and 2 year old girls love it, as does everyone who comes to visit. We got a grown up version -- no bar, that just looks like a concussion waiting to happen -- and we monitor closely, but so far so good.

I also really like the Rody inflatable horses http://www.rodytoy.com/. They're biggish, but cute -- I don't mind having it around -- so much so that I got Gyffy when we had our second! We live in a tiny place, but the color blast is just cheerful. They're durable enough to go outside when the weather permits too.

I cannot stand favor bags in general. They are the norm for parties here, but I too try to find one or two quality things to add to the bag instead of the junk that's so pervasive. Printing coloring pages related to the theme (or not!) is easy and popular. My new fave thing to do is to make a CD of the child's favorite songs -- play it at the party and then give a copy in the goody bag. It has been very well-received, and it's a nice little snapshot of the party that's automatically archived for years to come.
