If you paid close to nothing for it, just start taking it apart and see where it takes you...you'd be surprised at how simple most of these thing come apart and come back together.
Agree with other posters, you'll probably want to replace foam while you're in there. I hate that yellow dust that comes out of things this old....

I purchased two large clamps from Home Depot a few years ago - best investment ever. $30 total, and I use them all the time. The joints come out tight and clean, haven't had one repair fail yet.

As for these chairs, I'd probably rub them down with some Watco Danish Oil (natural finish) and be amazed at how nicely they come back.

Sorry Crayfish, the fact that a tenant doesn't like the appearance of a fixture in the apartment doesn't give them the right to destroy my property.
BTW - after spending the money and time with several cans of different color spraypaints and clearcoats, it would probably have been cheaper to buy a new sheet of linoleum or close-out ceramic tile (which you sometimes pick-up for less than $0.30 sq/ft.)

I built my bar from a vinture Victrola radio cabinet. The previous owner had placed the amazing cabinet (electronics gutted) in the trash pile during a snow storm. Luckily I spotted it before the trash truck arrived. I covered the shelves with black vinyl, added a rack to hang glasses...

I've been growing the castor been plants in my gardens in suburban philly for a couple of seasons now - without exception they are the plant visitors comment on. During our summer season they will grow to over seven feet tall, they have the lovely color and huge leaves... The spikey flowers are kinda cool, too. I collect the seeds in the fall, as the first frost lethal hear in the NE. Always makes me sad to see all the plants wither and die....My seeds will be in the ground first weekend after mother's day.
