I made a batch this weekend, brought half to a superbowl party and half to my office. Dubbed "chocolate-covered-crack", it's simply amazing. i braved dangerous wind conditions to make my way down to the farmers' mkt at Prospect Park this weekend, just b/c if it was going to be the 1st weekend with asparagus, i didn't want to miss it! alas, no asparagus yet, so i had to settle for another batch of leeks and potatoes. leftovers whenever i have them! today i'm enjoying the remains of last night's Oktoberfest-inspired dinner--sausage with sauteed apples and onions cooked in a combo of beer and apple cider and mashed delicata squash with melted ementhal (inspired by a Kitchn recipe). yay for cleaning out the fridge. oh this is brilliant--i have that exact cabinet (and a set of red pots and pans too) and i'm constantly trying to keep it organized, but always end up with a jumble that leads to plenty of clamor and noise. clearly i need this product. the olive oil gelatto at Otto in NY is delicious! i tried it on the recommendation of a friend who said that if i ordered it and didn't like it, she'd give me my money back. it was served with passion fruit granita, balsamic glazed strawberries and a basil/mint sauce. it was at once light and rich, sweet with a touch of savory (esp. from the small crisp of waffle cone with sea salt that was poking out on top), and all in all, probably my favorite part of my meal there. I'll be baking hamantaschen tonight--found a great recipe 2 years ago on the foodnetwork website--orange zest in the dough, dried apricot/orange juice/honey filling--i'll never eat store-bought or even bakery bought ones again! i'll also fill some with the blackberry jam i picked up this weekend. can't wait to share them with friends and co-workers!
