I wouldn't bother with reupholstery. If it's not too broken down, you could look into slipcovers. But I wouldn't spend a lot on it.

Oh, the memories. I made these almost 30 years ago for my sister's wedding. Haven't made them since, but still have the recipe. As I recall, extra sharp cheddar made a big difference. I should make some now, but being the only olive lover in the family, it would fall to me to eat them all!

I've always packed plates this way when moving (several times), and never had one broken.

Maybe too simple for this post, but our favorite is cream cheese heated with Rotel, served with tortilla chips. Always a hit.

Taco salad: tortilla chips, grated cheese, meat, black beans, rice, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, etc. Always a hit.

My first apartment, from about '77 to '79, (before a lot of y'all were even born!). It was on Main St. in Bethlehem, PA; a third floor studio with a giant picture window looking out over Main St. Hardwood floors, huge closets, a tiny kitchen with a separate entrance from the hall, great landlords who owned an optometrist's office on the first floor. Rent was 120.00 per month!

It doesn't matter how well you try to contain or clean up glitter; one little speck will surely find its way to your face.

I would try a bright color. Like yellow, maybe.

I've bought a lot of second-hand furniture. After the sniff test, I pick up a corner of the piece. If it's heavy, that's usually a good sign. If it flexes, not good. On sofas and chairs, try wiggling the arms. If they're solid, good. If not, I usually move on. The only time I forgot to sniff test, I brought a sofa home that had been in a smoker's home. I tried everything I knew to do; finally gave it to my son for his garage hang-out.

I would definitely paint the walls. If it's possible, removing the cabinet above the window would make a huge difference in the amount of light coming into the area. Do a search of backsplash ideas on this blog; there are a lot of ideas for temporary situations. See if you can remove that wavy edging on the inset shelves.

My husband and I really like our Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Covers. I'm using it right now. Keeps the tablet at the right angle. I don't know if I'd like it for real typing, but it works fine for "hunt and peck".
