Our house sits back from the road quite a ways, so we don't have the advantage of visiting with neighbors, but the sitting area we just added in the front has become our favorite hang-out. It's cooler than the patio we have in back, and larger, with plenty of room for sitting and plenty of space for the kids to play.

I was really looking forward to the Chilton County, AL peaches we usually get, but the late frost killed most of them. Hoping for a better crop next year!

I would restore it to the original, even if it means re-siding, brick, whatever is on the outside.

Very nice, especially that brickwork! It looks to me like all the bricks need is a good power-washing.
Congratulations on a beautiful job finished!

Another vote here for an extension pole. The one I have extends to about 12 ft. I find it makes it so much easier to paint a ceiling, because I can extend it enough so that I'm painting in front of me more than over my head. Of course, you have to be painting a room that has plenty of space to maneuver that big a pole. If not, I use a tall ladder with a paint tray holder. BTW, I'm 56 y.o. and still going strong!

Being from the eastern part of the US, I'd never heard of an Earthquake Cottage, so of course, I googled it. What a wonderful piece of history you have! I especially love the vaulted ceiling with the contrast of dark wood with white walls.

I have several wall switches with no purpose in my house. Also, redundant switches. For example, in my kitchen, I can stand in the doorway and easily reach a switch for the overhead lights on both sides.
In the sunroom, there are two switches for the ceiling fan, but if you turn on the fan with Switch A, it won't turn off with Switch B.
When we bought the house, one of the bedrooms had an en suite laundry room, but no closet. That was one of our first renovation projects. The laundry room is now in the third location since the house was built in.

I love floor lamps, and have 4 of them in various rooms. I think the most I paid for any of them was about 30.00. Thrift stores are my favorite source.

I did this in my living room. Opposite ends of the ceiling are slanted, and for some reason, the wall color (a sandy gold color) looked a little darker on the ceiling.
However, in my bedroom, where I have the same situation with the ceiling, I didn't need to do this. I used Valspar's Sage Bud (a bluish green). Depends on the light, I guess.
