Interesting... I do like blue but I love color in general. I was especially obsessed with blues for a while, my living room was a darkish shade and is now a much lighter aqua. But I have to say, during my obsession I attempted twice to paint my bedroom blue and ended up painting it a grapey purple (and am about to finish the trim in gold). Funniest thing to me: I've come to love orange more and more as I've gotten older, didn't like it so much when I was young. And my kitchen is yellow (with green trim).

The first apartment I found that I really wanted (but didn't get) I don't remember how I came across but I do remember every detail of it to this day: the second story of an old craftsman house with a door at ground level opening to stairs leading up to the apartment. It had amazing built in's in every room including window seats. A small "doghouse" type space built around a dormer window (which would have been perfect for a twin mattress on the floor as a bedroom or just a cozy reading place, a nice balcony overlooking the backyard, lot's of big windows and even though the kitchen was tiny and installed in the "hall" space at the top of the stairs it was charming -a small two burner antique stove and oven to one side, refrigerator and sink to the other. The only thing I can't remember is the bathroom. The landlord didn't like that I was so young and wanted a letter that my parents would cover me if I wasn't able to make the rent ever. If I'd gotten that place I don't think I would ever have moved again.
The first apartment I DID move into was the upper floor of an old barn which I found when a girl at a cafe I would take my lunch break at said she needed a new roommate. We later moved into one of the front house apartments -a large Victorian house divided up haphazardly. Our bedrooms had double pocket doors, our kitchen was a sloppy addition on the front porch. It was a crazy place but fun to live there.
But my favorite story of a place I did get was the one I live in now. I'd called on an ad in the paper and the landlord would never call me back. I came to find that he was also the landlord of a woman I worked with AND that he had rented the listed apartment to another woman I worked with who told me that there was another (much better, actually) vacancy in the same small building. Both co-workers called the landlord to recommend me and I ended up getting a better place than the one I'd initially been calling for!

I have to say I'm with the others who are suggesting you spread out the furniture a little more. Seeing as you're not used to having so much space maybe you've forgotten how to enjoy it? :)
But if what you really want is the additional sofa/tv area why don't you try something different like big floor cushions? You can make something really comfy and less obtrusive than a couch. Maybe a small shaggy rug under it so it looks more intentional.

When I started feeling more grown up about what was in my house it didn't change the aesthetic I wanted it only made me more careful in choosing pieces that weren't going to disintegrate. I've seen a lot of new (and very expensive) furniture that I would love to own but I know that most of it wouldn't feel like "me" in my house. I stick to funky vintage and hand me downs and just try to be wiser about inspecting the piece and judging it's condition and potential for longevity, I've had a lot of pieces (mostly chairs, coincidentally) that looked "perfect" when I bought them but started to crumble once they were being used regularly.

I would think it would really depend on whether or not the colors appealed to the specific viewer in which case overall I think it might just narrow the audience.

I was already thinking of a watermelon red color when I got to where you said red, do it! I love red on a house.

I'm with Abstractionist, why match? I like well curated variety myself. It's more interesting to look at and live with and less limiting. Just take some time to look around and different things and see what you can put together that you like. Personally, I think this could easily share a room with other painted furniture in colors other than white and I think natural wood colors go with everything so there's always that for the other furniture. Especially honey colored wood.

I'm a lifelong vegetarian and all around animal love and while I cannot stand the idea of fur clothing -really, really makes me think "dead animal", I can't help but like the pelt/hide rugs that have become so popular. I couldn't do the cowhide and opted for a synthetic alternative which is not nearly as beautiful. I do have a couple of the IKEA sheepskins and my dogs and cat love them. What I think I could be ok with is a guaranteed old animal cow hide but where would you find such a thing? I actually was just perusing a few sites the other day because I do wonder if I could ever be convinced to go for one, they are sooo beautiful. I know it must sound kind of backward for a vegetarian and animal lover but I love the natural aesthetic.

What Do You Think About Animal Hides In Your Home?

Wow, I think a lot of people would think I'm a bit of a fool (judging from the comments above) but I am fairly fearless (and happen to have an ugly "security" screen door, plus two dogs) and have never worried much about answering the door. I might also add that in the summer I never close anything except for the security screens as I have no AC and have even fallen asleep for an afternoon nap with both front and back doors wide open and have never worried about it or had any problems -I also live in a small apartment complex with good neighbors and am a bit off the street on a dead end. But really, I'm sharing all this here because I always tell people that what I believe is that "bad things" happen when you're afraid that they will.
