I am *that* neighbor. Passive agressive doesn't help. I had a downstairs neighbor who decided to yell up "Are you two having fun?!" at the top of her lungs, to which I replied very loudly "I sure f&!@ing am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That was the first time I realized how thin our floors were (the walls are quite thick). Needless to say it just pissed us both off.

We also had said neighbor shout encouragement, clap, hoot, and hollar which made us louder; and leave us passive aggressive notes. I finally wrote her a note stating "When you stop making me listen to your boyfriend argue about credit cards at midnight, I'll stop making you listen to me have sex at nine in the morning".

Very simply letting us know that the floors/ceilings are thin would have solved the problem. They moved out, we got new neighbors, warned them and let them know to come talk to us if we were ever too loud and were informed "That's okay you'll probably hear us through the floor then!"

Sanitary reasons + ick factor = whyyyy!!?!????

I can't see how you could stomach having a shelf full of books in your bathroom...in any area of it.

I have really mixed feelings about this room. I love the wall color and the curtains which add a huge sense of height to the room and accentuate so well.

The rug as others have said actually reminds me of something you'd see when walking into a department store, something with muted colors that would bring in the blue and white would be fantastic.

The table and chairs seem completely out of place with the room, and as a person with a bookshelf in their dining room I have to say I'm sad to see yours so lonely. The style also looks completely out of place with the room.

With the very rich and wonderful 'weight' that the sideboard gives to the room the table and chairs just look like a lonely afterthought but I honestly couldn't say what would make it feel less abandoned.

Either way, it is your home, and the time that you put into it to make it reflect you and how you feel about it is what matters the most.

The windows in the last picture are to die for. I think I'm becoming obsessed with long and narrow spaces such as the first picture as well.

Had to come back and comment again, somewhat surprised at how distasteful some commenters find the art: Congratulations on displaying your own photography in your home so prominently and being so clearly proud of it.

I really like number 3 and surprisingly I am really infatuated with number 1, there's something about all that tile and how well it goes together and brings out the fixtures. Now if only the other side has privacy glass floor to ceiling to let in natural light.

This is a really beautiful home, I love how warm it is and the way that the colors have all managed to blend together into something so comforting. Fantastic job!

Wow. I really love the way that this looks and it's thrifty (which is so appealing). I agree with other questions though, are you using a special paint and does it feel weird to walk on with bare feet?

Your floors are so beautiful! I would love to see a whole house tour or at least some before and after, it sounds like a whole lot of love and a heck of a lot of patience went into making this house into your home.

I have to say that this would be a nightmare of dusting for me even though I do collect books.

Also, the use of "hoarder" which is a medical condition and incredibly debilitating was very irksome. I'm sure it wasn't meant that way, but it's right up there with calling your design style "schizophrenic" which I hope no one ever does (or has).

Wow this is an amazing transformation! Even though I can't stand a television over a fireplace that really does look good and the hidden wires was so amazing.

Just, wow!

I don't see it as an improvement, I totally agree with other posters who said that they have issues with using one hand towel with a party of friends over...but I just put out a stack of clean hand towels when I am expecting a lot of guests.

@Delilah: I guess I don't understand (because I'm surely ignorant on this topic) how cut flowers are an "environmental nightmare". I guess I can understand that there must be a lot of fertilizer and energy used to grow the flowers (I just use flowers from my deck or live plants that I have grown in vases for my home) but I'm not seeing how flowers which are fully compostable produce as much havoc as a factory churning out disposable paper towels that most people will bin. I'm not trying to be snotty, I just really don't get it.

The green chair in picture four is to die for. I have always wanted to paint an entire house in gray and black, like gradiants through rooms in subtly darkening shades. It's daunting to make sure it isn't oppressive however.

Carefree Poufs

This is just the post I needed. Coming from a country where it is very common to sit on the floor (with cushioning of course) it has been hard for me to adapt to having nothing but sofas and chairs readily available. I've been looking for fabric to make quality floor pillows and poufs because I love sitting on the floor.

I guess I am with the short crew, I would have to get an actual ladder to reach anything stored on top of the cabinets which is extremely inconvenient since I cook regularly. I'm also in the camp of people talking about grease, heat, and dust, it just seems very unsanitary if it's something you're going to use. If it's for decoration and you like it then have at it! I know I'd be up there once a week washing down bottles which is why I don't store anything above the cabinets.

This is such a refreshing update, I wish that they would have taken another shot stepped back to match the Before picture. Either way it's much cleaner and brighter than the previous incarnation.
