For a buffet always estimate more than if you were serving sit down. So 1/2 pound of pork per person and enough chicken for 250 sounds right. If you have leftovers then send them home with your guests. You have a plan for what happens if you have too much food, but what is your plan if you do not have enough?

I am not a fan of murphy beds either, so my suggestion would be a bed that has storage underneath. Like this one:

Then have a coffee table that can also double as a dining room table. Look for something that is height adjustable. Like this one:

In such a small space the best bet is to have furniture that has multiple purposes. Good luck.

Going by those boards that are up in the corner, I would leave it as is. I do not care for the reddish tone and speaking as someone who has dark wood floors, they show every speck of dirt and dust.

It is an interesting idea and I have thought about doing something similar, but ultimately it does not hide the cords which for me is the ultimate goal of such a setup. But if you like it then that is all that matters.

Tagines are one dish meals from Morocco and often times use preserved lemons. I know you said the dish you had was in Turkey but the ingredients, flavors and methods of the Mediterranean region are often quite interchangeable. Try looking for a fava bean tagine and if you manage to find something share it with the rest of us.

Maybe instead of looking at recipe blogs aimed at a beginner cook, look at individual recipes instead. Look for recipes with a short list of ingredients, particularly those with ingredients that you have on hand or are easily obtainable. Even as a seasoned cook those recipes are the ones that I gravitate towards. There are also recipes here on Kitchn which are fairly simple for a beginning cook; like a poached egg with white rice. Or how to doctor ramen to make it into a meal. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Also, if you make rice frequently at home then invest in a rice cooker. It is SO idiot proof.

The decor is not my style but what I love is the absence of lots of stuff and the utility of your space. I would have loved to see the loft though.

I also don't think the rug is that bad, particularly if you put throw rugs over the top. If you stick with neutrals in your place I think it will look great. When I say neutrals I mean keep the basic colors of white, brown, and black - and all the colors in between - for the large pieces. Use small pops of color in the form of pillows, art and miscellaneous pieces. Good luck.

Another vote for frozen spinach here. Actually, while I love fresh produce, for me frozen often times just is a quicker and more economical way to buy veggies. I don't think they suck.
