If the basement is 30x30 as indicated by the measurements, you have many options. Legally a bedroom has to have a window, but there's nothing that says you can't do sliding panels or curtains to section off the top part of the T and have a decent 10x12 space with considerable surplus for living space. I like the update, personally. The floor looks like it was just sanded, so it could go back to being dark at any time. Based on where the lamp was, I'm guessing the phone/electric outlet are behind the yellow bag. It would be very easy to control the wires behind the desk, the iMac only has one, as does the phone. I think it looks great, but I don't think I'd want it on too many walls. As an accent like in the Mondrian-inspired photo it can really pop, but in an entire room I think it could come off like bad faux finishing. Contemporary Venetian Plaster Applications |

I have an induction cooktop and I have to say I will never go back to gas or electric. From the easy clean up to the precise heat control (you don't need to use a double-boiler anymore, it's that good) it's an all-around winner. I visited the Robie house back in October. Renovations were still underway but the tour still went through almost all areas of the house (the bedrooms and bathrooms were not included in the tour). The tour guide was very knowledgable and had an understanding about the construction materials as well as the design. For a renovation junkie like me it was a fun experience. It's an amazing property but it saddens me when I see how in-reach that style of house is yet center-entrance Colonials and split-entry-vinyl-sided generahomes still grow here in New England like weeds. Ok, this is from a hard-core neutralist and monochromist, but I think there is a lot to like in that room. I like how the blue pulls in from the dining room to the couch, which adds depth to the space. I like how the gold is reflected in the trim in the next room. The only thing I'd change is the trim color. White would be ok, it would tie into the tables and the table in the next room, I'd even wager to go gold on the trim as well, maybe just in a different finish, like a satin. I'm all for showing off tech bling, heck I got a house full of LED lights. I think those speakers are a bit out of scale for the setup though. I understand creating a sweet spot but everything appears too close together. It also looks like a bunch of scary monsters watching you watch the screen. I've made this a few times and the bread makes all the difference. Use a potato bread and let it dry out (or put in in a 200 degree oven for an hour or so).
