Thank you all for your feedback on this post! Patrick did a fantastic Apartment Tour of the whole space at the link he's posted above. There are lots more great photos you can find there – the good ones shot by rimacampbellphotography.com, the not so good ones by me.. If anyone decides to tackle an IKEA panel project, I'm happy to offer additional tips. One thing for sure - spend the extra $2 to get the batons for sliding the panels. Otherwise they get frayed and dirty very quickly (as you'll see in IKEA showroom).

The bedspread is from ABC Home - it's silk, I think was about $300.

The coffee table! Thanks for comments on that. It WAS challenging to get all the legs the correct height. And to enable my client to easily grab a book to read, there's actually an extra stack of books off to the side that's the exact same height as the table legs. The two can be switched out when she wants to read from a leg:)

Do you maybe mean the wires associated with the Parentisi light fixture that's hanging from the ceiling, by the white armchair in the first photo? If so, one wire is a stainless steel cable that suspends the lamp itself, and allows it move up, down and 360 degrees around. The other wire you see there is the electrical cord.

The two kitchen counters are from Wisteria, originally designed to be outdoor planting tables. We added industrial casters from CWIH (excellent assortment & a showroom here in the city) to give them height and mobility. Keep in mind if you do attach casters, the legs need to be reinforced.

Thanks very much for all of your feedback - this project was a lot of fun, and having the chance to hear peoples' impressions is too (so far at least..) I had the benefit of more or less a model client (thank you, Ann!) willing to ditch way more than I ever would have been able to, and with very similar taste to my own.
As Patrick accurately predicted, the coffee table is stealing the show! It's funny how what originated as an inexpensive and temporary experiment has stayed on, and unintentionally become a focal point of the space - both online & in reality. Everyone is right about it - it's not kid or adult friendly, so in that respect, it's far from ideal. That being said, people who see it seem to really like it! My client's been duly warned of its fragility, and (I think) she's still ok with it being a little awkward to move, since by not attaching anything we kept the books accessible.

A big thank you to Patrick, for expressing things so eloquently (can this guy write or what?!) and for your creativity in showing the space very effectively - great job.

If you're in the area, I've always had great luck at Just Shades, located at 21 Spring Street in Soho. It might be worth a trip as it's the most extensive retail space of shades I've seen. Also, they are very helpful and innovative with solutions if you can go to the store. Otherwise their site is www.justshadesny.com.
But true, it's doubtful you'll be able to find something even off the shelf for much less than $30-40 range. But.. it's nice to try fixing things before contributing more trash to this disposable society we live in.. hopefully if you do get rid of it, metal is recyclable.

Great video - I got rid of a pillowcase so far :( but a funny thing happened, when I went to watch the video, my sound was off... and when I clicked on volume, I could not only hear you talking, but also a great African Rumba Roots song was playing in the background -- it sounded so perfect with the video (made the outbox seem somehow less threatening...)! I then realized the music was from my itunes, but hey, maybe a little music could add a whole new dimension to The Cure! (I know, I know, add it to the list.. )
