There's a shop in Montreal where they've been selling pendant lights like these for at least 10 years.

Down. I lived with a girl for years (I'm a man) and we made that decision after both of us had little accidents in the middle of the night with lids we thought up (or down in her case), which weren't. I got the habit after that. We never cared about the germs - we smoked each a pack of cigarettes a day, so there was nothing we were afraid of.

Face up, to avoid chipping the rim. And always in a closed cabinet - no dust.

I keep all my books, and all organized by alphabetical order, whatever the subjet, excepted table tops, dictionnaries, atlases and grammars, which are grouped together on the bottom shelf of my bookcases (to add weight to their base, since they run to the ceiling).

Don't put them in the dishwasher and you'll be fine. The heat in the dishwasher will bring the lead to the surface of the glass, and if you pour something acidic in it (wine, anything with lemon...), the acid will dissolve the lead and you'll drink it. But as long as you wash them by hand, you'll be safe.

All very well but I think that cleveness isn't enough. You need privacy, and unless your kids are dolls, you need a quiet place to get away from games, screams and toys.

I won't rent an appartment without : hardwood floors, a balcony, natural light, some charm, place enough to entertain. Pets must be allowed, it must be pest free, I must have the right to paint, and there are neighbourhoods I wouldn't live even for free... Besides that, I don't mind tiny bathrooms, lack of storage, a certain nevel of noise, bad heating or cooling.

Why not paint the pipes a metallic color (I did this with radiators, using barbecue paint)? that way they'll look natural whatever the background color is.

If this Josef Kohn has any importance in design, don't paint, you'll ruin them and any value they might have. If Kohn is nobody, do as you wish.

The cutest and smallest ever 60's gas oven, an old wooden beer box and a dozen of ashtrays, that's about it (all in the same kitchen).

I did the same thing but with very old, thick, large and crisp white linen sheets bought in a closing convent while touring Burgundy.

It's silly. Full bookshelves should never be covered, it's a pleasure to see them (and houses without books are an eyresore),

I have an home office but I never use it. I write anywhere from the kitchen while dinner is cooking to the balcony to a coffee shop to my job during my breaks. I like my writing profoundly anchored in my daily life and the office is too much of a retreat.
