I seem to recall Alton Brown, in an episode of Good Eats, talking about the benefits of using garlic powder in cooking. I can't remember all the specifics, except garlic powder needs to be reconstituted, and you should always read labels as many brands use filler.

I just got a set of organic cotton sheets at Target this weekend. 250 thread count, but quite soft and I'm sure they will get softer with washing. The set was $39.99 and there were several nice colors.

"Courtesy Helping" meant we had to at least try a spoonful everything offered (including veggies). This was the rule whether we were at home, at a restaurant, or someone's home.

Last time I was given a big bag of lemons, I juiced them. I used an electric citrus juicer and poured the juice in ice cube trays and froze them. I have a big freezer bag full of lemon juice cubes now so I always have fresh lemon juice on hand. Each cube is about 2 tablespoons.

I'm not a fan because I prefer more texture to my hot cereal (oatmeal, or hot Kashi pilaf). My husband, however, is a huge fan and has it at least a couple of days a week for breakfast. He likes the maple, brown sugar instant variety. My mom likes it, too, with just butter and salt.

I work in ritzy Orange County, California. The office I work in has a galley style kitchen with 2 fridges, 2 microwaves, toaster oven, sink, dishwasher, china plates, real glassware and silverware. Paper and plastic is also available. The company provides coffee and tea everyday. A light meal or snack is usually provided for our monthly staff meetings.

It's a really nice set-up, the only problem is it's routinely dirty and cluttered. People hardly ever clean up after themselves; they don't wipe out the microwave, won't wash their utensils (or put them in the dishwasher), and leave food to rot on the counter or in the fridge, then complain when admin staff tosses it. After an office function food often gets left out overnight. The best thing is people like to leave used, sharp knives sitting blade up in a mug or glass in the sink.

It's disgusting and makes me wonder how people live at home if they do stuff like this at work. I bring my lunch, usually in a soft-sided cooler and don't participate in office potlucks.

Very cute! It reminds me of an apartment I used to rent in Signal Hill, CA.

The spice rack in the kitchen is adorable, and the small cabinet next to the tv is really unique and shows off your collections very nicely. I'm totally impressed by how clean, neat and organized it looks.

Some wall color would be nice, but as an alternative, maybe try a large colorful rug in the living room. The lamp in the bedroom has a wonderful shape and it would really pop with a coat of spraypaint and a different shade.

Thanks for sharing!

We have a Krups that we got as a wedding gift. It's awesome! No temperature control, but it does automatically shut-off once it boils, so we just let it sit for a minute before using for tea and coffee.

The fresh ginger is a must. I've tried powdered ginger and the fresh and the fresh wins hands down.

Are the walls white? In the first pic, they look white, in the second one, they look a bit blue. If the walls are white, I think white cabinets might make it look too stark. If you paint the cabinets white, how about painting the walls? Lily C had some interesting color ideas. Or maybe adding a back splash...glass tiles, perhaps?

Love your living room, btw.

I still think there is a bit of regional influence. My mom's family, from southwest Missouri (Ozark country) calls it dressing, and serves it as a casserole. My dad's family, originally from Pennsylvania, called it stuffing and cooked it inside the bird. My husband's family is from Michigan and Indiana and they also call it stuffing and cook it accordingly.

I live in California and people look at me funny when I call it dressing.

Favorite Easter candy...Cadbury mini-eggs.

I'd make cupcakes and decorate the tops with coconut nests filled with mini-eggs.

I've burned rice cooking it on the stove, too. And often, when it's cooked in the rice cooker, it gets too brown on the bottom.

I'm always stumped about the type of measuring cups to use. Logic says use a dry measuring cup to measure the rice, and a liquid measure cup for the water. When I do that, the end product just doesn't seem right. It's usually too watery cooked at the recommended time.
