No desktop icons for me. No background either. I figure I've always got 100 windows open anyways so I'll never see it, why load a giant high res image into memory if I'll never see it?

I launch most apps with Win+R and typing the command as it's much faster than navigating a visual menu. Plus I'm a linux guy so I'm used to Alt+F2 and entering the command.

Q: Is It Safe to Mix Batteries?
A: We don't know, and we just wasted 5 min of your life pretending like we were going to actually tell you.

This site is starting to go down the same tube as Lifehacker. Perhaps it's time to delete the bookmark.

I just buy $30 PCI cards with two outputs. Combine that with the 2 on your mobo or AGP/PCIe card and you've already got 4. Need more? Fork out another $30.

$500 is a joke.

You should not turn off your computer if you intend to use it in the next 8-12 hours. Every time you turn it off the system cools, components contract. When you turn it back on the components then heat up and expand. Every time they go through this cycle it causes stress on the components and brings them one step closer to failure.

If you're going away a few days or just rarely use that PC, sure turn it off. But if you use it every morning and before bed then you're probably better off leaving it running. Either way you're energy savings will be negligible.

You should add cell phones to this list. Everyone gets a subsidized phone through their phone provider for $0-200 because they claim they cant afford to buy it out right at $600-700. After being locked into that data plan for 3 years they've now shelled out 3-4x that.

Just bought a fountain for my cat. He's the same, wont drink water from his bowl. Drinks it from the sink if it's dripping, drinks it outside, licks me dry after I shower... but not from his bowl.

He's still unsure of his fountain, but he does use it. Still begs for me to turn on the faucet though, but I think that's just for the attention.

As someone who does all his own upgrades and repairs, I don't see all-in-ones completely taking over. They're great for some people, but not all. Once it breaks down or needs a new drive added to it people will be regretting their purchase.

Based on the parts involved this most cost about $100 to build. Why not just buy a $10-15 bike computer? At least it would be water resistant.

Also, i can't figure out for the life of me why they used XBee's. There's no need for wireless, your bike isn't 5km long. Just run a 3 foot long RS232 cable and save yourself $50+ on parts.

Curious, why did Eneloop get left out of this? They're known for being the best rechargeables. Also, it looks like you're comparing a lithium battery to NiMH batteries. Different types of rechargeables excel in different situations.

Also worth noting is that most chargers wont work on lithium batteries, so you'll need a special charger for it. Most chargers are only NiMH and maybe NiCad.
