We put up the tree the weekend of Thanksgiving, whether the day after or the Saturday/Sunday just depends on how busy our schedule is. We also keep our decorations up into January as we are Christian and actually celebrate the Christian holiday of Christmas which lasts until Epiphany.

@erh1ny I used American Frame (.com?) You can custom order sizes and the cost varies depending on your framing material and whether or not you want glass or plastic (a plexi, I believe, which I used for an inexpensive print)

Since it was the last week, and I'm pretty sure I won't continue this the rest of winter, I splurged and spent $9.99 on 3 LARGE white hydrangea blooms from Whole Foods. They were perfect. Also, because of a previous week's assignment, I have an orangey-yellow begonia in a pot that should keep flowering for a while, a new peace lily that was a happy accident gift to me during the cure, and I will soon buy a poinsettia for the holidays. Yay for flowers!

my toilet broke right before I left for a four day retreat. it's just the plastic arm that connects to the handle that broke off, so i'll tackle that tomorrow on my day off.

i was thinking "books & media, the two things I actually keep in good order"...until I glanced at my bedside table and realized I had 10 books sitting there...and haven't finished one this year. Then I remembered the boxes in the basement of college books. Time to purge, but tonight I only have time for the bedside table as I'm leaving bright & early tomorrow morning for a work retreat...which will be good because it looks like tomorrow's assignment is a media fast and I won't have internet or cell reception. :-D

i agree that flowers flown in from around the world are a bit extravagant in terms of the environment, but I bought a potted flower last week that has beautiful orange blooms and is hopefully going to bless my home for a long time. Same with the peace lily given to me two weeks ago. Today, I cut some of the last blooms from around my yard because I was leaving in a few days and also didn't want to spend the money when I am leaving in two days.

I'm postponing this assignment as it's been a crazy busy week, this is the first evening I've been home at 5:00pm and I still have to rush to parent/teacher conferences. This weekend, I promise. After all, I really do love to cook, and I'm inspired by your pasta recipe.

I had planned on getting some cut flowers again, but when I walked into the grocery store I saw these cute little 4" potted begonia's with beautiful bright orange blooms and just had to have one. They were only $5!

I have plenty of green cleaners and some in reserve because I'm an active couponer too. I've got some Iowa Pine Mrs. Meyers in reserve from after last Christmas that I can't wait to break out in November. I'm near the end of my Method Grapefruit which is my favorite summertime scent. I also have Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena as my "regular" for things that don't come in seasonal scents like surface scrub. (Which I just used on my sink.)

I'm off to go through some kitchen drawers for the Kitchen Cure!

Oooooh this felt so good! I just took two large boxes of baby/toddler clothes to the Salvation Army that had been sitting in my DINING ROOM since June, when I had a garage sale. I finally went through the boxes as I had been meaning to, to pull out the stuff that still had tags. I'm going to bring that bag to a re-sale shop and if it does sell, then I'll donate. Its so nice to have reclaimed some space in my DR. Especially because someone today gave me a beautiful plant and I picked up an awesome plant stand at an antique store for just $10. This Cure has been GOOD for me!

I agree with DFig too. Love the videos. Love that you have hit your head in each one and left it in the video! ;-) It makes me think of you as a real guy doing the Cure with us instead of just putting on a show for a camera.

Day 2: Buy Fresh Flowers
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/19/10 11:07 AM

So I didn't let my weekend carpet shampooing and vacuuming count. I decided to focus on MY bedroom. The neglected room. The room where stuff comes to sit. Most of my clutter ended up in a bag, to be gone through at a later date, but I got rid of some stuff, even managed to throw a pair of shoes into my Donate bag. And vacuuming my bedroom led to vacuuming my office, then the hallway, bathroom, and kids' room. The second floor is relatively clean!

However, this was the perfect project, because what I realized in my floor and surface clean of my bedroom, is that there IS no surface! I have an antique mini roll top desk (like 2 ft wide) without the roll top functioning as my bedside table and that's it! I used to have an antique sewing cabinet at the other end of my room sitting in a nook that was my TV stand and a place to store stuff, but that was refurbished as a mini entertainment piece and bar and moved to my dining room. So have no where to keep things may be why I have so many things sitting around on my floor! I'm starting to get some ideas of what type of piece I would like to put back in that nook. Thanks, AT!

Day 1: Clean One Room
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/18/10 10:23 PM

Hey, people, chill. It's a MINI cure. And some of us DON'T vacuum and dust every day. I'm a single parent with a 1400 sqft home with a HUGE yard and two car garage that I maintain along with twin toddlers to look after and a full time job. This is actually the PERFECT assignment for some of us. I can't do it all every day.

...Although, I'm tempted to skip it as I dusted the living and dining rooms yesterday as well as shampooing the rugs in both of those rooms...

But my bedroom needs to be vacuumed, so that's the one I'll take on today. :-)

Cheer up, folks, don't complain so much. Life is too short!
