One way I have used in the past to get a handle on the neighbors is to knock on thier doors, let them know I'm considering an apartment in the building, ansd ask if they're free to chat for a minute. I usually ask about the building, neighborhood, transit dependability, and so on. I find that I get great information about the area, and also can tell a lot about the kind of people the neighbors are. I've had results from having a door slammed in my face (a definite red flag) to being invited in and offered drinks and snacks while we chatted. The most common response is a polite "sorry, can't right now" which tells me that even if we arent going to be besties, they are respectful people.

Apple Pie cocktails are my holiday staple, but I am taking note of every single one of these St Germain recipes. I LOVE this stuff...

I just keep my phone on silent, no vibration, at all times. When I sleep I turn it over so I dont even see the blue glow from emails and notifications. The alarm still works in silent mode, so I'm all set.

You should also check with moving companies that sell boxes to see if they have a recycle program. When I moved 600 miles I did buy a few boxes at the U-Haul store, but I also picked up a ton of free boxes that were dropped off by people who had already used them. Great for boxes and dvd's and stuff...

Setting Up Home: Moving Checklist

Used a storage space on a high floor climate controlled for all my possesions except my clothes when I first moved to Chicago. I was living with my bf and looking for a place. The first month was free, and I found a great apartment the next month.
My big "uh-oh" moment was when I moved the stuff in there. The clearance said 12'6" but the 12 foot truck the movers arrived in would NOT fit, so we parked on the street and ran the stuff all the way through the parking lot to the entrance. No fun.
