working from home is so lonely. i sort of forget how to talk aloud some days.

its definitely nice to be able to stay in my own comfortable home and take care of my dog and such... but it'd be nice if some how i could also infuse some social aspect to my work on a daily basis.

yeah i'm pretty annoyed with everyone getting all upset about the wasted materials and funds. like it or not, this is art and for the most part - artists' contemporaries DO hate their art. but it is IMPERATIVE that they make it just the same.

you all probably at some point bought a stupid monet journal or a print of a van gogh or pretended to be gahgah over some 250 yr old piece of dusty material with dried up egg juice all over it hanging on the wall in the Met... just because "its art"

all of that stuff that was created 100 years ago, so we can appreciate it now because it informs SO MUCH about the people, the times, the technology, the history, the philosophy, the EVERYTHING about that moment in time. Art tells us more about ourselves than any history book could ever do.

ever think that maybe this totally nonfunctional upsidedown house is actually critiquing YOU!? you think sitting on your bum in your suburban house, munching on processed and packaged chips while you browse the internet for fun is maybe a huge ass waste of resources?!

if you want to play the green card and get all in a huff about wasted time, money and materials - get off your asses, stop buying manufactured junk, vote for obama and starting doing something instead of just sitting there and whining.

meh.

Paint a huge rectangle behind the tv to distinguish that area from the entry area. Consider hanging a narrow curtain in between your landing strip and your media center. You could use either a tension wire or one of those curtain rods that mount only on one side and can swing 180 degrees (i have one that you can 'lock' into the angle you want). Getting a small entry rug would also help define the space.

I think I understand your floorplan after staring at the pictures for a while :) I'm wondering if the dark brown sofa wouldn't be better parallel to the tv? You could back the dining table right up against it which would help designate "livng" and "dining" areas. Please get some curtains to soften that window too!

You have a great space - you just need a little color and organization and it'll rock :) good luck! Send in after pictures!!

Joss - you're right - not everyone does care about college. but especially in todays age - being educated if you're running for president is, you know, kinda important.

and even more so - if you're trying to become an officer in the military, it would be nice to know that you cared enough to at least show up for class once in awhile and maybe study a couple times a semester. but oops, silly me - you don't need to do that if you're the privileged son of a couple generations of admirals. go ahead! crash a couple or five planes. we didn't need them any wawy

@sarahrae - you DO realize that everything you've purchased from walmart has ALREADY been packed up, floated halfway across the world, flown or pulled by train, then trucked across the county to get to your little no-where town so you could put it in your SUV and drive it home?

its NOT eco-friendly at all, you're right. It would be MUCH better if you bought something made from American goods, produced by American hands and preferably as local as possible.

I still don't understand why people can't understand this. And the whole "there isn't anywhere else to buy things!" argument is SO lame.

What did people do before walmart? still around on the floor in their houses wishing they lived in the big city where people actually had things? No. There were lots of places to shop before big box business put them OUT of business.

No one cried about the loss of jobs then, did they?! Because Americans are selfish and if they can get a great looking Scandinavian desk for under $200 why shouldn't they? Americas are entitled to that, right?!

Ug. I think I'm done with AT.

plants and twinkle lights look amazing. i'm a big big big fan of the birdcage in decor. i think theres a lot to be learned from old ladies.

i mean... my grandma has an entire house of mid century danish modern furniture and rosenthal china... and she got it as originals.. not trying to be hip or anything.

i'd give these to my parents. my dad is a huge music lover and pretty geeky for his old age. he knows all about mp3s and how to rip cd's and records. currently hes working with a macgyvered system of speakers strung together throughout the house. having these would greatly improve his relationship with my mother who would do anything to get rid of some of his wires.

she also loves to dance more than anyone i've ever met and is probably the best dancer i've ever met too. it'd be great to come home and see my parents dancing through the house :)

one small thing that could make them both so so happy :D

i lived in 508 sqf in brooklyn and worked out of the apt every day for a year. If I didn't have walls dividing up the space in awkward ways, I probably would have stayed there.

Its a lot of space- you just have to think creatively. Focus on whats really important to you and design around that. If you love having people over for dinner but not really to watch movies - try watching tv from your bed instead of a couch to make way for a table big enough to seat all your guests.

Or if you need lots of space to do your work, devote the most space to that and forget the couch and dinning table that you'll never use.

If you want it all - a space to do work, watch movies with friends and still have room to serve 5 course meals - find furniture that will do double duty.

Drop leaf tables, small scale couches, bookcase room dividers, these are your friends! good luck and send pictures of the space once you've designed it!!!
