If there is a good source of natural light, I think a really saturated, bright color, like a fuschia, could look really great in there.

PI - cats like to have multiple different places to hang out and specifically, some cats like enclosed spaces and this is somewhat enclosed. I also think they like the "hammock" effect - I have a piece of cat furniture that "sags" like this product and one of my cats loves it. she also lays on a wool blanket that is on a high shelf but at night she seems to like the hammock-like spot.

Also, cats leave fur everywhere! if you can get them to sleep on their own furniture instead of the human furniture, you are less likely to stand up and have a bunch of fur stuck to your backside. :)

chocolate can help lactose intolerant people tolerate milk. i learned this myself as a child - it was the only way i could drink milk without my stomach rumbling from my lactose intolerance. taking unflavored milk and adding a small amount of chocolate syrup can help with the sugar content issue.

If you are going to do a reno in the near future, I would not bother repainting the cabinets. The grey and white color scheme emphasizes the old floor and altogether looks too busy. I like the pale green you choose and in my opinion you should just paint all the walls that color, change the pulls, and consider getting a small round white table instead of the rectangular one. And if a stainless fridge is in the plans for the reno, replace the black one.
