Michy, maybe it's a lead tester? I didn't even notice at first and had to go back and look!

C seems a little closer in style, but B has similar art, and more importantly, the exact same windows, so I'm sticking with that!

I'm currently in an apartment that has wood trim very similar to what your photos look like — a warm, dark honey color. I'm a big fan (even though I love the look of crisp white) because it is unique, high quality, and amazingly maintained (especially for a rental property!).

There are a lot of opinions here on the extreme end of either YES! or NO!, but I echo the commenters who have said to refresh the wood and/or paint the walls and then see what you think of the trim.

Personally, I'd also try "non-door/window trim" rule (I just made that up, but I think I'm onto something): Paint the wood that isn't around the doors or windows, such as the ceiling beams, the walls and the back of the fireplace. By concentrating on the wood on larger spaces where a brighter, lighter color would have a clean, unifying effect, the windows and doors may "pop" in a way that's spectacular.

Good luck and congrats on your first home — it's beautiful!

Amen, @sharpknife! I agree with the poster who said "don't go overboard," but otherwise, it can be so nice to make the space "yours."

And to the people who keep commenting on the file cabinet — when you click through to the link, you can tell that she's referring to a file cabinet that she likely owns herself but hates the look of. No one is seriously advocating for doing drastic things to office equipment that the company would frown upon.

I think it's a great refresh. Besides, this look hasn't yet reached "white kitchen with subway tile" proportions for me. Hope she's loving it.

I am also having a serious love affair with that rug — can anyone identify where it's from?

In reference to my earlier comment, I just clicked through to her Facebook page and saw "draws" there. A commenter asked the same question you did, and she answered that it's her regional "NJ accent." :)

I don't think "draws" is officially a real word in that context; I see it written a ton on Craigslist, though, and chalk it up to a regional thing/not knowing any better. :/ Note: I don't see "draws" in the article itself, so maybe it was edited after you saw it...?

yep. convinced — just as advertised in my AT email! I'm particularly drawn to the reasoning of #1 and #4. rugs are something of an "adult" purchase for me — while I've replaced furniture over the years since college with better quality, substantial pieces, I've held out on getting good rugs. I resolve to finally get at least one (or now, perhaps, two) great rugs in 2014 to tie those rooms together!

High vs. Low: Think You Know?

The reason I noticed this post in the first place is because I was JUST perusing World Market yesterday and pinned that table as my dream dining room table (which one, though, I can't be sure!). Either way, they're gorgeous!

It looks amazing!

Did anyone notice, though, that the large piece is reversed in the two photos? OP, if you check back, could you say whether you flipped the photos or if you were able to change up the piece itself?

Regardless, nice work. Bet that was a beast to paint all of that wood (and esp. veneer!).
