Well, I have 3 young kids here in midwest- so our mudroom is busy and full...
I have commercial grade black door mats on the floor, boot trays along edges of the room, and then - this is where it gets unique and might I add brilliant (imho), I bought 2 microfibre rugs http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=1&SKU=109308 and cut them into stepping stones. We use these to make our way into the house in our stocking feet without stepping in an unseen wet-spot. Even the kids' friends know "Don't step on the green spots with your boots!"

Mousetrap and Shoebox (the world's cutest kitties) need this vacuum!

Can I boil water for pasta on my Weber (indirect heat) gas grill?
I have kids and must have pasta for dinner, even when it is frickin' 90 and humid. I can't handle the heat - get me out of the kitchen... please.

I just helped my 84 year old Dad pick out a MacBook and I set up wireless in their apartment (Mac's Time Capsule).
He'd love this... very cool and timeless - like him.

I purchased, over a decade ago, a trestle table with 2 benches. It is still gorgeous, useful, and most importantly - solid as ever: no creaks whatsoever. That's after a move, 3 kids - one of whom always finds his way to top of table to play board games, and many family gatherings. The benches are so heavy - no tipping over. Kids have even hung off edge of table to swing ("Stop that!" errrrrrr) and it is still steady and quiet. Love it.

Bought PB Kids cameron bookshelves/cubbies about three years ago. My handy brother-in-law couldn't believe how solid the wood was and how sturdy the units were after he assembled them (with really good instructions PB provided). Again, my three monkeys sit on the bottom bench and even step on the units to reach upper shelves - rock solid. Love it.

I have taught them to never even lean on the Ikea units.

Recently splurged (the $hipping!!!) and bought the Stratton bed with drawers (after 11 years of marriage I figured we deserved to get our mattress off the floor finally). Six drawers (I do wish they pulled out farther...) for linen storage/base support for our mattress 2" memory foam pad = heaven every night.
