Oh, and in order to have "character" a home has to be strewn with socks and other debris of life? Since when? Some people are plain old neat. Always.

Why all the harsh words based solely on the obvious high cost of this home? What, rich people suck? If you don't value money why do you care so much if someone else has it? This home is perfectly gorgeous and the owners obviously have excellent taste. The home they'd create with 1/4 of the budget used here would be equally as beautiful because these people simply have style. And you people would love it.

At first glance I thought I was looking at a few "before" pictures. Seriously...this passes as "design"? Not in my world!

I see a recurring theme here - people having one cat, getting another to keep it company, and then realizing the two cats won't get along. Cats are not pack animals like dogs. They do not need feline companionship and more often than not one cat will bully the other and there's nothing you can do about it. I have to question if proper steps are being taken when introducing a new cat into the home of an existing cat. You can't just introduce them to each other and expect everything to be hunky-dory. You need to sequester the new cat in one room for about a week. Let them get used to each others' smells and the idea that another animal is in the house and then allow the new cat to roam around for awhile everyday and then for longer and longer periods of time until it is fully integrated into the home.

I love the idea of navy blue doors and cream or even light grey walls with pristine white trim.

Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: What Colors Will Save This Space?

I have been experimenting with different litter for awhile now. I currently am using Nature's Miracle and I have no plans to test anything else. It clumps well and has an ok smell - I'd have to guess cedar. I didn't like the clay litters because it's strip mined and I was also concerned about my cats developing "clay lung". You know how dusty it gets when you pour and scoop clay litter - think about your cat inhaling that everytime they go to the bathroom. I highly recommend that anyone still using clay litters switch to Nature's Miracle or Feline Pine.

Even painting the walls an off-white color would help immensely. I understand you're renting but you should just go for it. As long as you're not painting a deep, rich color the landlord will be able to paint over it easily. Where I live landlords are required to repaint between tenants so you wouldn't be hurting anything. I think you've got a great foundation and shouldn't worry about the finishing touches. In my experience this will happen over time and you will end up with things you love instead of rushing it and buying things you think are ok. You could go really sophisticated and keep things neutral like they already are and add pops of black and one other color you really love.

I was excited about these until I read that you're supposed to use all three at once. I thought you'd only need to use one and that therefore the savings would be almost exponential. I figure the average single person does maybe two loads of laundry per week which would equal 104 washes per year. This means a single ball could last almost 10 years! I go to a laundromat so if I had to buy more than one set of these to do my multiple loads I coudln't afford it. To anyone who has used these, have you used all three or is one sufficient?

I love string curtains. We have some at work and use them on set frequently. They give a really cool effect and you can layer them too.

Sorry PBandB...I know it wasn't you who made the PB comment. I wanted your enlightenment on the existence of a firepace in the room to get a better sense of it. I do like the CB Nina rug - very bright and cute. I think it would look great in your place. I really like how you want to bring red into the room! It is going to be so happy and cheerful!

I think for curtains you should layer two different white curtains of different textures. A fun patterned sheer behind and a slubby, heavier white in front.

Also, I did not recommend a Pottery Barn rug because I thought everything else in the room was from there. I recommended it because in my opinion this room could use something heavier and bold to anchor the room and the black of the rug would look amazing with the black armoire. The Bold Flower rug is stunning in person and very playful. I do not have kids so I don't understand why a wool rug isn't a good option. Is it simply for cleaning issues? I have a cream wool rug with two cats who like to urp on it and I just have a good carpet cleaner on hand.

If you look closely at the picture it appears that if you were sitting on the couch you would see a fireplace on an angled wall to the right of the armoire. This would solve the mystery of the couch placement that everyone seems to be up in arms about.

PBandB could you enlighten us?

I think a cream/white and black rug would look fabulous. Pottery Barn has a new bold floral rug called the Bold Floral Rug that would add some great depth and dimension to your room. I would then simply add some color through some great pillows and art. I love pink walls but I would consider going slightly deeper to - again - add some depth as well as color. Add a few baskets or canvas tote as mentioned previously for the toys and you'll be rockin' a sophisticated room.

I didn't see this episode either but by the looks of it I didn't miss out on anything but some bad drama. Why can't people think beyond white or wood cabinets? My parents live in Florida and have a stunning kitchen with ...ready?...blue cabinets! I myself thought they were crazy when they told me their plans but it is the most beautiful, cheerful, inviting kitchen I have ever seen. Start thinking in color people...especially you "design stars".
