i tried your changes on; they just don't quite fit me. i don't have extra spare time to sift through even more dubiously organized tabs to find the content i want and avoid the content i don't. maybe i'll check into the kitchn in a few months to see if you've worked out some of the more glaring glitches but, for now at least, there are other sites that do it better.

is there anything more cozy and feelgood than a house full of big, beautiful, rugged men and giant lap-doggies with sweet woebegone eyes? i never even knew i couldn't live without cowboy-print curtains but my fantasy home has just been kicked up a notch.

wood/pellet burning is heavily regulated during winter months where i live. since a lot of cities/states are beginning to enforce environmental regulations, forecasting potential legislation in your region that might hinder use of wood-burning units in the future should probably factor into your decision.

boyfriend and i both have sleep issues, so we turn the house off, light some candles, brew a pot of tea, and settle down on the sofa for our daily state of the union chat. fatcat gives a howling three-minute warning before he herds us off to "go bedtime," where he generally mucks up the entire blanket situation until he finds his spot in the middle. tinyninjacat materializes from thin air to stake her claim to boyfriend's pillow, at which point we contort into dejected pretzels until someone gets a faceful of paw around 4am to signal that the furbabies will deign to be fed and have their box freshened so they can start their day. 4:10 is when the really good sleep begins.

i could spend the rest of my life snuggled in that red sofa nook with my lifetime reading list and a few cases of wine strategically stashed in those end cabinets.

@pattilain: you can never be paranoid enough about those things! my laptop, my boyfriend's computer, our external backup drive and both of our digital cameras were stolen when our apartment was broken into while we were at work. we lost a decade of photos. insurance covered the electronics, but i would give every possession i own for photos of my cats as kittens or of my boyfriend and me when we first started dating, or--especially--just one single photo of my best friend who passed away when i was twenty.

@jmorri26: i mounted bud vases on my bathroom wall far enough from the solid surfaces that my cats can't quite reach them. it drives them batty. :)

How To Make Homemade Reed Diffusers

back when i lived in a ridiculously close-quartered building, the two very sweet little old sisters who lived upstairs staged an adorable "smoking lounge" about 20 yards from the building complete with a cafe table and umbrella, vintage ashtrays, and string lights. they never came right out and asked the smokers to stay away from doors and windows, but their honey drew the flies all the way to the back of the shared garden.

they also baked fresh bread every monday morning and made homemade soup when you were sick. i don't really have any complaints about my current neighbors, but i sure do miss those two...

@RtU: credit. my best friend's wife still owes several thousand on the two she later sold at a hemorrhagic loss because she didn't expect him to stick to his guns when he said he'd only buy her one.

Everything about this space is gorgeous, but just the thought of waking up in that bed to that pudgy little fur-face every morning made me almost homicidal with pure jealousy. Love.

@miami's elaine: i'm always disturbed by people that trivialize allergies. while i confine my cats when entertaining, it's necessary to inform new guests that there are long-haired cats in residence. i also keep over-the-counter medication on hand for people with mild allergies, but i learned the hard way that surprising an unsuspecting guest with a snuggly fur grenade may end in an e.r. visit. that's just bad social karma.

i just about died laughing at some of these comments. it doesn't matter that my cats are well-trained and ridiculously lazy. it's unfair to subject my crotchety little nuggets to "animal lovers" that ignore repeated warnings that touching the no-fly zones will result in biting, then become outraged when the cats go unpunished. an uneventful evening in the bedroom isn't going to rock their little world to its core, and it's easier than trying to train people that no always means no.

i'd still take poorly-trained animals over children any day. i can handle a 90lb lap blanket trying to nose his way onto my plate, but nothing ruins a thanksgiving meal faster than a squalling monosyllabic germ incubator sliming like something out of a bad horror flick.

jimmyjane doesn't sell any "personal massagers" on their website, but they do sell thoughtfully designed vibrators. why not call a spade a spade?
