How to Beats always seem to make it into Apartment Therapy posts? They're way more than a bit over priced. For those are don't know they're made by Monster, the company that charges through the roof for their AV cables.

The price point is set as a social status, not the audio quality of the product. They're just like Bose headphones 85% marketing and 15% quality sound. There are a ton more of over/on ear headsets that beat both Beats and Bose models out of the water for much less.

I'm surprised that nothing from Grado, Klipsch, or Sennheiser made it onto this list.

The beats by dre headphones will never be worth even that sale price. Their price point is merely based on the social status they convey, not their sound quality. They are priced on par with Monster's cables.

Pick up some nice Sennheisers, Klipsch, etc. for the same amount or less.

Or you can simply go to the point you want the video to start on youtube, right click on the video, and select copy url at this time. Or you can add #t=XXmYYs to the end of the URL, which is what YouTube Time does.

I love that on my Evo 4G (non LTE) running CM7, when I set an alarm a quick notification pops up saying how long until it goes off. If I'm setting one for the next morning I can tell if it's correct if it says something along the lines of "This alarm is set to go off in 7 hours and 42 minutes" instead of something twice as long.

@HTXHEATHER I worked at TCS from 2010-2011 but perhaps since I worked at a new store, things may have been a bit more relaxed, but to my knowledge, you could get a custom closet made with ELFA, and if you moved in a few years you could return some parts and modify it to fit your new space. I even saw returns over 6 years old.

If you have a Container Store near you, you can actually just bring your entire drawer in. Any of the employees will be happy to help make sure everything fits and you can organize it right then and there. Also all of their products have a lifetime return (that's right RETURN) policy so there isn't much risk in just grabbing a few options and returning what doesn't work out.

@jpb It's easily realistic. You don't need a tower to have a computer, the bookcase is the tower. It's essentially a spread out Thermaltake Level 10 chassis, putting separate parts in separate compartments. As long as it's properly cooled, you could easily fit the parts within the shelves.

To add to the contrast ratio section, in the few scenarios where one is stuck between two TV's of the same brand, it can then be used as a comparator since it's at least standard within brands. Comparing cross-brands is apples and oranges.

I too am guilty of leaving my desktop on 24/7, but a few months ago I figured that if I'm going to leave it on while I sleep, I should at least do something good with it. Now I run Folding@Home during the nights. I still pay the same amount, but at least that energy isn't going completely to waste.

Buying the Mac Pro and simply swapping the hardware is a ridiculous waste of money. If you have the know-how to build it yourself (and most people do) then do that. If you part it out on newegg it will cost you $2900 for a '12 Core' equivalent compared to Apple's $4999 setup. That leaves you plenty of extra cash for peripherals. On top of all of that you get at least a 3-5 year warranty on almost all of the individual parts

I'm going to have to call out the second half of 6. Yes, desktops can weigh a lot but they're not meant to be portable. I've never wished I could pick up my desktop and haul it to starbucks.

7. Everyone has a choice of OS on any system. Also, why would you say Microsoft made us all believers in the "hate" section?

@puck73 On a desktop you also have cables for your keyboard, mouse, 2 for speakers (power and audio) and power for the tower. It's about 7 at a minimum for desktops and 0-1 at a minimum for a laptop based on its power requirements.

Something easy and cheap to do is buy this document holder from Office Max, cut it at the top bend so you just have a long piece of mesh with a small "L" at the end, and cover your cut with one of those binders for plastic document covers. Total cost of about $10
