I, too, have had that exact Simple Human trash can for the last ten years, and I love it. I remember thinking at the time that I must be crazy spending that much on a trash can, but it's turned out to be one of the best household splurges I ever indulged in. No odor trouble with us.

If you're looking for a simple pop-up toaster that actually toasts bread on BOTH sides, try Calphalon. It's nearly impossible to find a good, old-fashioned toaster (whatever happened to those simple Rival or GE toasters?), and after much aggravation, the Calphalon was the only one I found that really works.

HOLY MOLY. And I thought my Zojirushi 4 cup coffee maker - which does essentially the exact same thing though admittedly in not as aesthetically pleasing a package - was a splurge at 70 dollars. I think now it may be some of the best 70 dollars I ever spent.

I recently had a circa-1900 oak rocker repaired by an antiques restorer and this was his method of cleaning and restoring the finish - will not harm old shellac or varnish and will even out the color/finish where the varnish is worn or scratched away:

1) clean the piece with COOL soapy water let dry
2) thoroughly clean with turpentine
3) wipe the entire piece with a coat of OIL-based stain that matches the original
4) coat with good ol' fashioned paste wax (never use liquid or oily waxes) let dry then buff and polish.

One of my favorite house tours ever. Lovely. Such a great mixture of old and new; comfortable, warm, happy. And that bookcase is sheer genius.

About a month ago, I painted the inside of our front door a super bright, saturated orange - Clark and Kensington's Poppy Fields (can't paint door exterior because HOA governs colors). I LOVE it. Makes me super happy every time I see it, livens up an otherwise boring entryway, and gets rave reviews from everyone who sees it. No more white doors for me.

If this final round had been between moustache cat and that gorgeous, GORGEOUS vizsla, I would have had a really, really hard time. (I still think it's a travesty the vizsla didn't make it to the championship! And I'm a cat person.) It truly would've been a tough, tough choice.

But now, moustache cat allll the way.

I have always thought that should be a requirement of posting a good question --- that you must post the results afterward. With some of the questions, it's maddening to not know how they resolved it.

Add me to the list of people who've always thought they looked liked larvae or caterpillars during that awful molting stage. Definitely would never want one in my house.

This is one of those "iconic" pieces, along with Panton chairs and Courbusier lounges, that I've never had a liking for. (Courbusier lounges especially look like medical equipment to me.)

I have a color similar to that in my bedroom -- Ralph Lauren Canvas. I love it. It reads as either grey, green, blue, or putty, depending on how much and what type of light is hitting it. The room is dark and gets very little natural light. White walls didn't brighten it, but made it seem even gloomier, sterile and more dismal. Painting it this color made it both calming and cozy.

It's beautiful. And I was totally excited to see it and try it out in the store. Unfortunately, not comfortable at all. Which tends to be the case with all IKEA chairs. Why IS that? So aggravating.
