Don't use soap. I clean mine with a nylon scrubber and put them on the stove on high heat until they smoke. Wipe them with a little oil if they look dry. The seasoning is perfect and so wonderful to cook with. The Best Way to Dry a Cast Iron Skillet Tips from The Kitchn |

We've had a bread and cheese night at least once a week for a while now. We figure even a $10 wedge of cheese and a $5 loaf of bread is cheaper than takeout, but it still feels decadent. We'll serve it with cut up fruit and veggies (yes, baby carrots) and/or soup on a cold day, and also olive oil for dipping. What's Your Secret Grocery Store Indulgence? |

If you want to have some fun, look for some antique Griswold skillets. The insides are machined and much smoother than any new skillet made today. They aren't much more than the Lodge ones. Just eat 15% less cheese, or eat it 15% less frequently. There's no way you're taking away my cheese. I already don't eat meat basically at all, I mostly eat whole grains, legumes and fruits and vegetables. A cup of milk or yogurt for breakfast (skim milk, low or nonfat yogurt). I've used coriander seed when I don't have fresh cilantro. Out green coriander seed fresh from the garden. I find it intriguing that there doesn't seem to be a singly authentic guacamole recipe. I do it differently based on how I'll be using it and what I have available. I've probably used every ingredient listed here at least once. I think it's great any way you make it. Breyers' ice cream went way downhill after they started adding tara gum to it. The thing I liked about Breyers' was how it melted, and now it just turns to disgusting goo. Can I just say that glass top radiant cooktops are the devil's work? You look at them funny and they get stained. You can usually clean them with hours of scrubbing, but you have to do it every time. Add to that the miserable heat transfer, thermostatic cycling (they can't overheat) and burner sizes that are too big for your pans and it's just trouble all around. I remember the story of the guy in Atlanta who was rigging his ovens to go up to self-cleaning temps without latching and cooking pizzas in the 800-1000 degree heat, and doing well. He also destroyed ovens quickly with the repeated prolonged use at those temperatures. Want Awesome Pizza? Turn Up The Oven |

If butter and cream are the only issues, you can probably subsitute palm shortening and nut milks (like a cashew cream). Or use Earth Balance instead of butter--it tastes very similar and works the same in recipes. I made an apple pie crust with it a few years ago and it worked great.
