My cat destroyed my leather sofa in about 8 years, not from scratching but from running over it. He pushes off like a speed skater. I enjoy his youthful exuberance but he really is destructive. I just moved and am awaiting the delivery of a velvet sofa. I'm sure he'll find a way to destroy that one too.

I love how uncluttered your place feels. And yet it's also homey and non-spartan.

1) Where did you find your couch?

2) And your boots?

I think these look great. I wish I could figure out a way to incorporate them into my grain free Primal way of eating, as I do still miss sandwiches...and cake! (I admit, a few are a bit odd, including one lumpy salmony one, and the one with kiwi/tomatoes/radishes...kiwi could not possibly taste good with the other ingredients.)

It would be very hard for me to travel to Sweden and not partake in sandwiches like these or openfaced ones...especially with shrimp and dill.

Charming. I like that it's not too busy. I love the chevron floor and as Matt says, it's easy to redo it if he tires of it. What a nice place to come home to at the end of the day! I'd love to have dinner on the patio.

Please! Stripes will always be in style. She might tire of this look after living with it for a while (and as she stated, she can easily do something else then) but to act as though stripes are a just a fad seems ridiculous. I think it's a fun room and she made a great impact with a small budget.

I've been eating primal (which allows some dairy)/paleo for one year and I've never felt better. My meals are a bit more varied than this one though--I definitely use lots of herbs, spices and coconut milk/oil for flavoring. Additionally, I eat a lot of fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut that are healthy.

The reason why people who eat this way think grains and legumes are bad is that they contain substances that damage the lining of our intestines and allow large protein molecules into the blood stream. Our immune system produces antibodies against these foreign proteins that resemble proteins on some of our cell walls, so the immune system ends up attacking some of our own cells, creating auto-immune disease and inflammation. I highly recommend that anyone with chronic health problems try this way of eating for a month.

When someone says you need grains to be healthy, I say what am I missing? I get all the fiber I need from veg and fruit, and all the vitamins and minerals I need from meat, vegetables and sunlight. There's a reason grains are typically fortified to make them more nutrient dense; they don't have much going for them to begin with. As Robb Wolf says, you can live on grains/legumes, but you can't really thrive on them. They're cheap fuel.

A Peek Into the Paleo Diet: Dinner with Philip & Leona

For the past 6 months, someone in our building has been using bleach in the machines...as evidenced by the clothes (my favorite dress!) and towels with big pale spots on them. I try to wash a load of sheets or towels before clothes now, but sometimes I'm lazy and fill up both machines at once so I don't have to spend all night doing laundry.

Mostly I fantasize about 1) having my own washer (not easy to get an apt. with this in NYC) or 2) finding out who has been using bleach, waiting for him/her to put in a dark load and then adding loads of bleach. Sometimes I also imagine filling all the pockets of his/her clothes with shrimp. Bad washer-sharer.

I love both the idea of the rubber bands and the reassurance that even if I do leave the oven on, EVERYTHING IS FINE.

Maybe I need to use the rubber band trick on the flat iron, which is more likely to burn the house down.

I think a lot of people are responding to the words the author used rather than then the decor of the actual homeowner. Do you even recognize that they may have two different points of view?

I think the apartment is very peaceful and shows more introspection than most on AT, regardless of whether there are ghost chairs or other items you consider devoid of character.

And I have to say, I am encountering so many people on AT that I would never want to invite into my home. Not because I own anything much that's "devoid of character" or "mass produced" (yet...I may reconsider in the future) but because the level of rudeness and judgement is really offensive.

Beautiful job. And the red table is very charming with the print.

Before & After: Pretty in Pink to Bold Black & White – Part 2

I moved to a neighborhood far away from my friends. I have a great apartment but it's in a hood where there isn't much too do, so my friends are used to having me come to their neighborhood. I really miss throwing dinner parties, but I started to feel guilty for dragging people all the way to my neighborhood on the subway. I'm giving in and moving to Brooklyn in the spring, and looking forward to entertaining again!

It's funny, so many people have mentioned not wanting to entertain because they don't like the loss of control over their place and their stuff. But I like to entertain in part because of the sense of control: I plan the food, the music the drinks. Everyone has to try the things I like. Yay! I just find it really fun. And no one ever seems to notice the mess or awkward seating, especially if there's plenty of sangria and good food!

I love anything chevron! The measuring must have taken a lot of work, kudos to you. I think you should paint the shelf, white, yellow or even a contrasting color. Great job livening up a dreary space!
