One of my favorite decorations in my apartment is a lithograph from the video game Bioshock. It looks like a classy vintage reproduction to the layperson, but once in a while someone will recognize it and we'll have a nerdy moment.

I've actually been working on my own transparent speakers using glass. Although glass is not an ideal enclosure material by means, the sound is good for most listening and for me the aesthetic benefits far outweigh any distortion. I had been building speakers for several years and just couldn't take the boring box anymore. You can see them and the construction process at ilikewood.

I have found that it is easy to "hit the wall" when working on DIY projects, getting caught up in a mistake and coming to the conclusion that all of your hard work was for nothing. On the other hand, I have also found that it only takes one small idea, and suddenly your project is alive and well, and has regained all of the precious potential that it had when you first envisioned it. Although this enables a lot of procrastination in my own life, sometimes it is best leave a project alone until you can find that perfect inspiration to take the next step towards completion.
