I live in a 1 bedroom apt with my boyfriend and 1 year old son. the bedroom functions as his baby room, with toys, clothes, crib, etc. the living room is open to the kitchen, and also contains our bed. we have to keep it tidy, otherwise it would feel awful giving its our everything space.

so we typically tidy up as soon as we get home from morning preparation chaos, and prepare supper/lunches for the next day. I like the small space. it forces us to spend our time together, even id we're watching futurama while we play/tidy up.

Haha. You sound like one of those gotta-control-the-show types.

To everyone else: I personally hope I can get my kid flying on his own ASAP. I would love for him to be able to spend a month with my parents and not require me to fly with him. Far more affordable and time saving. I don't have to use up vacation time and he gets to learn some independence. O how I hope he'll be mature ish and willing.

If you're a drinker, definitely a bar! Paint the alcove some warm colours and get some lighting set up.

Also a great location for vinyl, as ck8g0 said above.

If it were my place I'd use it as the designated "cat area". Litterbox below (one of those covered ones) and hang a little curtain to hide it away, unless you have a designer box. Above I'd get some shelving for the cat to climb up and sleep.

And of course, a closet would be extremely practical. I'd probably house my shoe collection here. (behind a curtain if this is in a living/dining area).

Awesome setup! Great use of space. I'm gonna send this to a friend who just had her third daughter. Maybe they will incorporate it in their own home in the future.

If I think about my friends who shared rooms with siblings vs. friends who did not share with siblings, the ones who had to share rooms are legit friends now as adults. The siblings who didn't share a room do not seem to get along or like one another at all. Certainly has inspired me to ensure my children share a room.

Or me, who was an only child who never had to share a single thing (ie. a tv in my bedroom, my own computer, tonnes of toys, etc.) still has huge issues sharing items/space with people I willingly choose to live with.

1. Hammock or a hanging chair - be it outside or inside.
2. A yard or balcony - I love plants and have acquired quite a few in our tiny bachelor apt, but wold love to be able to have my own outdoor space. I do go to the park every day with my son, but it'd be nice to sit and have breakfast on my balcony. Especially because I live in a very quiet residential area, unlike my old apt which was basically at yonge/bloor in toronto.
3. Fresh flowers in my home regularly
4. A place to eat rather than on the couch. I do sometimes eat at the desk, but hate staring at the printer.
5. Pets. I love my snake and all, but he's got to be the worlds dullest pet.
6. Beautiful large pieces of art.

Inspiring use of space. Love the artwork, the colours, the kitchen wall!

And of course, the bike in the bathtub is awesome.

My boyfriend, our newborn and myself live in a bachelor apt, and it's about 400 sq ft (I think anyway, I'm not too sure. It may be smaller.)

We basically purged a lot of stuff that we weren't using on a regular basis, only keeping items in our space that are used (aside for little knick knacks and such, but they live on shelves and such.) We use a bunch of stackable bins in our closet to keep lesser used items, and our desk functions as our tv stand.

Really, it's all about storage, organization, keeping neat, and sectioning areas for your different living spaces. Ie. a distinct bedroom space, living room/work space, and whatever else you can fit in.
