Sources for Converting a Garage? Good Questions

maybe one of those spike strips they use to prevent pigeons from roosting on buildings. no... seriously... you probably only need something right at the edge like a potted plant or sculpture hard-mounted into the wood because they probably won't be able to get to the ledge from the 3rd or 4th stair down. you could always add a wrought-iron railing to make like a little balcony and fill it with plants, art, etc.

i don't know if you can imagine this... but i didn't do either. I created a toddler bed by removing the front section from the crib, lowering it to the floor, and sliding it to one side about 2 feet. Then I zip-tied the heck out of it to keep it sturdy. Instant toddler bed. It's very safe, comfortable for him, and cost nothing (i had the zipties in the basement). I should upload a photo at some point, but it really works well for us and our little guy.

I would get a decent looking mirror in a plastic (water resistant) frame and just sit it on the counter behind the sink, angled so that you can see yourself when getting ready.

i believe it is intended as fun and innocent. Those suggesting it's some sort of pedophile lair should just relax. Actually, now that i look at that word, shouldn't "pedophile" describe someone who likes feet? The prefix for children is "pedio". And "phile" simply describes someone who likes something. I think "pedioviolar" would be much more accurate (violator of children).

I got beautiful quartz countertops during my kitchen remodel. I found that there is significant negotiating room in the price. Although the price here is listed at $60-$100/sq ft, I was able to get it at $35/sq.ft. I have the Cesarstone Quartz Reflections with a shiny finish.

Seems like this could be replicated by using a 2 way mirror for the floor (mirror side down) and a mirror at the bottom of the cavern (which would really only need to be 1-2 feet deep). The image would reflect ad infinitum giving the illusion of an infinite abyss.

Don't need:

Bumbo: there's such a tiny window when the kid can sit upright safely in it supporting their own head... and thighs still fit the chair. I wouldn't buy it again.

Disposable diapers: you're taking something (poop) that naturally decomposes in days... and wrapping it in something (diaper) that lasts for 700-800 years. I love my BumGenius diapers.

High Chair: a travel clip-on or one that straps to a chair is sufficient. no need for specialized furniture here.

Hanging diaper holder: this thing is just ridiculous.

Diaper bag: No need. a good quality backpack is far more useful and versatile.

Changing table: I used a changing pad on an ikea dresser and never needed this specialized furniture.

However.... a good rocking recliner chair is indispensable!!!

In many ways the eReaders (nook, kindle, etc) are the better option.
They beat the iPad with regard to glare, weight, pocketability, battery life, and very importantly... COST. There's also the peace of mind to know you're reading... and don't need to check your email, look at facebook, take a photo, play with some angry birds, facetime, etc. Twitter notifications won't bother you on your dedicated e-reader either.
They beat the paper books in some ways too: carry many books in your pocket, borrow e-books from your library (if you turn off the wireless signal, you can keep them past the "due" date). I understand why people have both devices. I use a B&N Nook Color with CyanogenMod 7 on an SD card. That way i can load up my dedicated e-reader or plug the chip in and have a full-featured Android Tablet. My wife prefers the black & white Kindle Touch. To each their own... and can't we all just get along?

While we're all bashing this idea.... it's also not effective in low or zero gravity environments such as space, underwater, or homes in freefall.
