Latest Comments...

So sorry I hadn't been following the comments and missed some questions...here are a few responses...

We actually just put a rug in the baby's room and he loves it!

The windows in the house are Marvin Integrity--we really wanted fiberglass for its insulating properties and Marvin's Integrity line was the most affordable for the quality. I have a whole post on our blog about our window decision here if you're interested: http://greenhousevt.blogspot.com/search/label/windows

The bed headboard was a craigslist find! I really wanted an iron bedframe and found this one for cheap on craigslist--my favorite place to shop.

Thanks again for everyone's warm comments--it's so affirming!

Hi Minnie,

We *loved* our builder--he is a true craftsman. His name is Bill Litchfield and he's based in Jeffersonville, VT. His website is: http://www.specialtydesignvt.com. We would highly recommend him and encourage anyone considering building in this area to consider him!

Hi all,

Thanks again for all of your comments. To answer some questions...we have Barometer Ikea floor lamps from IKEA (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30089576)
They seem to work pretty well with our decor.

We adore our Paperstone countertops. Would highly recommend them. We love that they look like soapstone and are eco-friendly.

And no, at this point, there's no color on the walls--they're all white. We like the clean backdrop it provides but are starting to hang some of our artwork to add pops of color here and there. We'll post updated photos on our blog once all the art is up...

And while I completely understand everyone's concerns about our little guy on the island (my heart would skip a beat, too, if I saw a photo like that!) please know that I was RIGHT there and would never, ever have let anything happen to him. He never hangs out on the counter...it was sort of a fluke thing that the photo captured him there. He is greatly loved and well cared for--we promise :)

Thanks again for everyone's lovely comments!

To answer some questions...

The bread is just a basic blueberry muffin recipe, baked in a bread dish.

Yes, the floors are maple.

And the pendant lights came from, of all places, Home Depot (!)

Hi again,

Yes, the baking dish is Bennington Potters--we LOVE their stuff. We actually registered there for our wedding instead of for fine china...

Thanks again for everyone's comments. You're all welcome to come visit...and even sleep in the bathroom, if you'd like, rosenatti :)

Hi guys,

So the table is from Five Corners Antiques in Essex Jct., VT. The table is made from salvaged barn board and the chairs are originals. You can tell, too--they creak and moan every time you sit in one!

We modified plans from Moser Design Group (http://www.moserdesigngroup.com/)--they have loads of lovely small house designs. We actually had a hard time picking one but this seemed the closest to the farmhouse style we wanted.

Hope this helps!

Sus

P.S. And funny that you should mention the trim. We had something else spec'd out (beefier, more modern, flat edges)...but due to money problems towards the end of our build , had to go with the lumber yard stock. Grr.

Oh, and soulflower--we missed the Vetiver concert :( Milo had a bad teething night so we didn't want to leave him. Next time!

Thanks for everyone's comments--we're so glad you like the house!

And I thought we might get some reactions to the baby-on-the-island shot...just wanted to let you know that I was right there, out of the shot, but close enough to grab him if need be. We never put him on the counter by himself! The photographers just didn't want mom in the shot :)
