This is my new favorite breakfast! I love making a batch on Sunday morning and having leftovers to reheat with some milk and dried cranberries throughout the rest of the week. It's like hearty pumpkin pie for breakfast!

This is delicious! I loved how none of the flavors dominated the others. My only wish would be if the grain-cooking could be somehow consolidated, e.g.: cook 8 ounces of spelt with x cups of water for x minutes, then add the Trader Joe's Harvest Grain blend and cook for x more minutes. It felt like a lot of pans to dirty for a grain salad, even though I used the same skillet to saute the asparagus that I used to toast the almonds.

Still -- this tasted light, lovely, and springy -- just what we needed in the doldrums of March!

I adore Napa (or Savoy) cabbage prepared in Orangette's manner (with or without the fennel): http://orangette.blogspot.com/2009/01/best-we-can-hope-for.html. Especially good when cooked until very caramelized and some sliced baked tofu is tossed in at the end.

Growing up, my mom always made cinnamon-pecan rolls for Christmas breakfast, but I tend to try other things these days: baked French toast and stratas are always a hit and can be made the night before (bonus!).

We made this strata and had it for breakfast this morning -- it came out of the oven almost souffle-like and was delicious! My fiance is vegetarian, so I used browned and crumbled veggie sausage, which worked great. I also added a bit of sage, which didn't hurt one bit.

I too was disappointed with the whole-grain version. I substituted 1 cup of all-purpose flour for the rye flour and a half-cup of whole wheat flour, and replaced about two tablespoons of the water with honey. It came out leaden and not very flavorful. Toasting it the next day helped, but not enough to encourage me to make this again.
