What a great post! When I buy the 4-in-a-bag avocados at Trader Joes, I can't eat them all before they go bad. And if I leave them on the counter my dog steals them and eats them. Now I will just freeze the extras! And the compound butter suggestion sounds great!

My house is so 1980's builder grade, these would really take it up a notch!

$400? What a steal! They must be the Arlington Sofa from Pottry Barn. Are they really comfortable? I am thinking of getting them for tv watching and lounging.

@fredbiscotti- I don't have a shiba inu to sleep on my clothes, but I'll plan on getting one soon! In the meanwhile, I'll make do with my three cats. (Aren't shiba inu rather cat-like for a dog?)

Run rope lights or led lights where they can't be seen from the ground. Put a carefully edited collection of colorful glass objects where the light will make them stand out. Keeping with all one color could be interesting. You would definitely have to dust it sometimes though!

Water, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, tuna, pet food. The tip about a leash and pet carrier is a good one. Have a face mask, work gloves, duct tape, plastic garbage bags, and a gas line wrench. Also do not forget to keep your gas tank at least half full, have walking shoes, water, and a jacket in your car at all times. Always have a two week supply of your and your pets prescriptions. And a first aid kit.

I like the fireproof idea- do you know how expensive firesafes are? Use it to store valuables, important documents and backups of your family photos.

Or food (not necessarily frozen food if you don't want to pay for electricity to run it) but food stores for emergencies like earthquakes or blizzards.

Or if you want to use it as decor, I second the idea of using it as a bookcase/display. Painted inside and out with awesome colors (turquoise/lime? lilac/yellow?) with the door propped open. Like they use armoires with the doors open for display.

Paint the back wall a bright color. Maybe put a big mirror on the wall to reflect light?

Or floating shelves with candles.

I am thinking of doing a door with the barn-door type sliding hardware between my bedroom and bathroom, but I am thinking of using a frosted glass or shoji door to let some light through. Love the antique barn door, though!
