"My husband could make this with scrap aluminum and spray paint for a lot cheaper."

Let's analyze this:
Cost of materials:
Metal: ~ $30.00 at most HW stores
Paint: ~ $10.00
Metal Grinder for joints: ~ $100
Welder to join metal: ~ $200
Metal saw cutter: ~ $200

If my math is right that's about $550 for your husband to spend to "make it cheaper". Still think it's cheaper? Simple math is a wonderful thing!!!

Wow, this is so coincidental. My son is hooked on Legos!! ( I claim it's an addiction!). My wife was trying to figure out what to get me for my birthday from my son. I suggested on of the Architect series from Legos. My son go me the Farnsworth series (500+ pieces). I was so excited to get it and we spent a Sunday afternoon putting it together. Of course after we put it together, we had to fight over who could play with it! Anyways, I agree with your comments. I loved putting it together with my son as well as teaching him a little Architectural history at the same time. Thanks for the article.

AWESOME!! I am from the Rochester area (grew up in Scottsville), but now live in Houston. The house that I grew up in is right down the road from Wendell Castle's studio. It's great to see a MCM designed home in Rochester. There aren't many modern homes in the Rochester area. Great job on the house!!

I love these garages. My only problem is that I have too much junk in my garage now. But with one of these garages, that's a good reason to get rid of some of my junk!

Take a look at some of the furniture artist on Etsy as well. You'll find a lot of recycled furniture and found objects made into furniture as well. (I'm such an artist on Etsy!).

Wow that light in the Breakfast room is the same light that I had in my first house. I remember installing it and how much a pain in the but it was to get it level with the wires. Oh the memories. Great space!

I think styles come and go. I have some old (80's) Architectural Digest magazines that have some interesting interiors. I think the pendulum has swung away from minimalist type interiors to more balanced (new splashed with vintage/worldly) designs. However, like fashion what is old is new again. So it will be new again someday....

Interesting idea. I remember a couple years back a show on TLC that had a kitchen remodel that was going to make cabinets out of drywall. Didn't happen though (homeowner freaked out). Would have like to see how that would have come out.
